Tribal Court Clerk II
STATUS : Permanent/Non-exempt/Full-time/40 hours week
DEPARTMENT : Tribal Court
REPORTS TO : Tribal Judge
SALARY : DOE Position Overview:
- Greets the public and announces same to the appropriate personnel.
- Assists the public by providing forms and relevant instruction sheets for the public to use in the drafting of petitions, affidavits, complaints, responses, motions and other documents for court proceedings.
- Maintains all cases pleadings, documents, and other materials filed with the court in court files. Ensures security and confidentiality of court files and information contained in the files.
- Identifies the title and nature of the case, the names of all parties involved, the substance of the complaint, and dates of hearings and trials. Additionally, will identify all court and jury rulings, findings, orders and judgements, and any other facts or circumstances designated by judges of the courts or deemed of importance by the clerk.
- Dockets all cases and prepares court calendar. Prepares court docket for each court hearing day.
- Administers oaths, witnesses’ execution of documents, and provides copies of non-confidential documents to the public upon request, provides parties with copies of documents as needed and permitted by law.
- Attends and electronically records court hearings, trials, and meetings.
- Prepares court cases for electronic scanning and ensures electronic file is complete, legible and accurate.
- Avoids all instances of ex parte communication regarding cases before the court.
- Reviews court orders for accuracy as appropriate and distributes appropriately to parties.
- Provides outreach and education to the community on Tribal court proceedings
- Assist and support all Tribal events.
- Cannot have any active pending court cases.
- High school graduate or G.E.D.
- One-year clerical experience.
- Good with arithmetic.
- Type accurately (40 wpm).
- Basic grammar and spelling accuracy.
- Familiarity with software used in offices.
- Familiarity with equipment such as phone systems, scanners, copiers, computers as used in offices for general office operations, including email and word or document processing.
- As Assigned.
- Complete background check.
- Submit to pre-employment drug testing.
- Comply with Drug Free Workplace Policy.
- Ability to attend meetings evenings and weekends.
- Requires flexible scheduling (when applicable).
- Ability to travel.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
