Job Description and Duties

MAINTENANCE AIDE (SEASONAL) – SAN DIEGO COAST DISTRICT / TIJUANA ESTUARY SECTOR

“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. If verification is not submitted with the application, the application will not be processed. (Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program).”

The reporting location is Coronado, CA. The Maintenance Aide reports directly to the Park Maintenance Supervisor in Silver Strand State Beach.

The Maintenance Aide, on a temporary or seasonal basis only, performs unskilled manual labor in cleaning up and maintaining State property, and does other related work.

This position performs the following duties:

Inspects and cleans restrooms, museums, warehouses, and State facilities. Cleaning includes toilets, urinals, lavatories, sinks, ceilings, walls, floors, drains, and doors. Also picks up litter, empties trash cans, sweeps walkways and inside buildings, washes windows; removes graffiti; vacuums carpeting and floor surfaces; dusts inside buildings; changes lights; removes refuse to prepare or maintain State property; reports needed repairs and hazards to Lead person or Supervisor; assists with special event projects; rakes, shovels, removes brush, waters shrubs and trees, cuts lawns, hoes brush; loads and unloads boxes; washes garbage cans and works on garbage pickup crew; maintains and operates light vehicles. Inspects, cleans, and maintains light vehicles including trucks, electric carts, Gators, lawn mowers and equipment. Complete and fills out forms, including supply requisitions and Time Reports, as needed in performance of duties. The purchase and wearing of a State Park uniform is required and State Park grooming standards must be met.

This position can work 189 days in a 12 consecutive month period or a maximum of 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months per California Code of Regulation . This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

Possession of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate class and a safe driving record as documented by the Department of Motor Vehicles within 60 days prior to appointment. (A safe driving record is one free from convictions in the past two years for repeated moving violations or a single serious violation, such as drunk driving or reckless driving.)

Working Conditions

Outdoor work is common. The incumbent’s work will involve moderate exposure to a full range of environmental conditions, varying terrain, unusual elements and inclement weather. This includes extreme temperatures; cold, windy, wet and muddy conditions; hot, dry, muggy or unpleasant conditions; exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and loud noises.

The required uniform will be maintained in a clean and neatly pressed condition; the state park patch will be visible at all times; shirts will be tucked in at all times; only authorized uniform items will be worn.

When speaking with park visitors, incumbent will be courteous, attentive and helpful.
