Automotive Diagnostic Technician
Job Summary
A growing automotive repair facility in Fountain Valley, CA is seeking an experienced Automotive Diagnostic Technician / Master Technician for a direct hire opportunity. This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician who excels at advanced diagnostics, complex mechanical repairs, and accurate, high-quality work across domestic, import, hybrid, and electric vehicles. The ideal candidate is not a parts replacer. This role is best suited for a true diagnostic professional who uses a systematic troubleshooting approach, verifies concerns, and takes pride in completing repairs correctly the first time. Key Responsibilities - Perform advanced diagnostics on electrical, drivability, engine performance, hybrid, and electric vehicle systems.- Complete complex mechanical repairs, including engine replacement, head gaskets, timing chains, timing belts, transmissions, drivetrain, suspension, steering, and brake systems.
- Diagnose and repair hybrid and electric vehicle components, including HV batteries, inverters, DC-DC converters, and hybrid cooling systems.
- Use OEM-level scan tools, lab scopes, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and digital service information systems.
- Inspect vehicles thoroughly, identify additional repair or maintenance needs, and document findings accurately.
- Communicate effectively with service advisors regarding repair recommendations, timelines, and job status. Compensation and Benefits - Pay range: $30 to $35 per hour.

Required Qualifications and Skills
- Perform advanced vehicle diagnostics and troubleshooting on mechanical, electrical, drivability, hybrid, and EV systems.- Complete major mechanical repairs with accuracy, efficiency, and a focus on reducing comebacks.
- Use professional diagnostic tools, wiring diagrams, lab scopes, and OEM repair information to verify concerns and complete repairs.
- Document diagnostic findings, repair recommendations, and completed work clearly and accurately. - Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as an Automotive Technician, Diagnostic Technician, or Master Technician.
- Strong experience with engine performance, drivability diagnostics, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Advanced knowledge of shorts, opens, voltage drops, CAN Bus communication systems, and electrical schematics.
- Experience with engine repair and replacement, transmission and drivetrain systems, suspension, steering, and braking systems.
- Ability to perform systematic diagnostics rather than relying on parts replacement.
- Familiarity with OEM repair procedures, service information, and preventative maintenance standards.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following shop safety procedures and manufacturer guidelines. Preferred Qualifications - Experience with hybrid and electric vehicle systems is highly preferred.
- Previous dealership or high-level independent repair shop experience is a plus.
- Experience with high-voltage battery removal and replacement, inverter diagnosis, DC-DC converter replacement, and hybrid cooling system service is preferred.
