The Crypto Core Trading team is responsible for delivering a seamless, intuitive, and reliable crypto trading experience to millions of customers. We build and maintain the systems that power the full trading lifecycle—from customer-facing applications to order routing, execution, and post-trade settlement. Crypto is one of Robinhood’s three core business pillars, and this team plays a central role in increasing trading activity and improving execution quality for our customers. You’ll partner closely with product, frontend engineering, data, and infrastructure teams to ensure every trade is processed accurately and efficiently.

As a Software Engineer on the Crypto Core Trading team, you will design and build backend systems that support high-volume, low-latency trading workflows. You will develop APIs and services used by millions of customers while ensuring correctness, resilience, and scalability. Your work will directly impact trading performance, system reliability, and customer experience across our crypto platform!

This role is based in our Menlo Park, CA and New York, NY offices, with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week.

What you’ll do

● Build and maintain backend services and distributed systems that support high-volume crypto trading activity.
● Design, implement, test, and release product-facing features with strict correctness and scalability requirements.
● Develop and refine REST APIs that serve millions of customers, partnering closely with frontend engineers to ensure performance and reliability.
● Identify and implement improvements that increase system throughput, reduce latency, and minimize operational risk.
● Contribute to long-term architecture decisions that improve maintainability and support continued growth in trading volume.

What you bring

● 2+ years of professional software development experience.
● Experience building highly concurrent or distributed systems, with a strong understanding of API design principles.
● A track record of contributing to large, complex systems with sustained impact over time.
● Sound technical judgment and the ability to prioritize work that aligns with team and business goals.
● Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex engineering challenges into practical, maintainable solutions.

In addition to the base pay range listed below, this role is also eligible for bonus opportunities + equity + benefits.

Base pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. The expected base pay range for this role is based on the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation zones. For other locations not listed, compensation can be discussed with your recruiter during the interview process.

$166,000 - $195,000 USD

Zone 2 (Denver, CO; Westlake, TX; Chicago, IL)

$147,000 - $172,000 USD

Zone 3 (Lake Mary, FL; Clearwater, FL; Gainesville, FL)

$130,000 - $152,000 USD
