Job Description and Duties

The Department of Water Resources’ Modeling Support Office’s Central Valley Modeling Section is seeking qualified candidates who can solve complex challenges associated with Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta (the Delta) and beyond.

Under the supervision of a Senior Engineer, Water Resources in the Central Valley Modeling Section of the Modeling Support Office, the incumbent is responsible for developing hydrological and forecasting models and developing hydroclimatic datasets for simulating the State Water Project (SWP) and Central Valley Project (CVP) operations using DWR's water management simulation models.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

The ideal candidate will be familiar with basic water resources engineering concepts and scientific methods of problem solving, have working experience in hydrology, in visualizing simulation results, and in computer programming (especially Python), the ability to modify and expand existing pre/post processing tools to prepare simulation model input and writing small script to process and visualize model input/output.

This position requires the incumbent to work cooperatively with other engineers and scientists, maintain regular, consistent and predictable attendance, exercise good judgment, and complete assigned projects and tasks as directed. The incumbent should have knowledge and working experience with water resources modeling, data analysis, and strong communication/presentation skills. The incumbent is also required to work cooperatively with others; maintain regular, consistent, and predictable attendance; and exercise good judgment. Training will be provided commensurate with experience, skill level, and assigned responsibilities.
