Software Engineer, Fulfillment

The Fulfillment group, within the Marketplace at Lyft, is responsible for determining what inventory can be reliably offered for a given rider session and fulfilling rider requests. The group comprises several sub-teams that generate feasible offers for riders, match rider requests with drivers, and maintain a distributed state machine to track rides and drivers from request through completion.
As a software engineer at Lyft, you will collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams, such as product, data science, and analytics, to lead and execute large projects—from concept to efficient execution. We are looking for a motivated Software Engineer who is passionate about solving challenging technical problems and excited to work in a fast-paced, innovative, and cross-functional environment. In this role, you will tackle some of the most interesting and impactful problems in ridesharing.

Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, deploy, monitor, operate and maintain existing or new elements of the Fulfillment tech stack
- Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code
- Have a good grasp and ability to explain the various trade offs made in decisions
- Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge
- Lead projects from idea to positive execution
- Proactively participate in resolving ongoing incidents
- Unblock, support, effectively communicate, and obtain buy-in across teams to achieve results
- Share your knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, and evangelizing appropriate tech and engineering best practices
Experience:
- BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or relevant work experience
- 2+ years of software engineering industry experience
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming
- Experience designing, debugging and running fault-tolerant, highly available, large-scale distributed systems
- Experience working with public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure, etc.)
- Proficiency in scripting languages to use APIs to automate manual processes
- Experience with common CI tools (Jenkins, Buildkite, CircleCI, TeamCity), and proficiency in at least one of those tools
- Sold knowledge of distributed systems, relational and NoSQL databases
- Ability to communicate in English in writing, meeting and presentations
- Fulfillment owns services written in Golang and Python

Lyft highly values having employees working in-office to foster a collaborative work environment and company culture. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco area is $128,000 - $160,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
