Laboratory Technician

Lab Technician (Food Manufacturing – Spices & Seasonings)
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Pay Rate: $23.00 – $27.00 per hour (based on experience)
Position Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Lab Technician to support quality control and food safety operations within our spice and seasoning laboratory. This role is responsible for conducting routine laboratory testing, documenting results, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards.
The Lab Technician works closely with Quality Assurance, Procurement, R&D, and Production to verify product specifications, evaluate supplier materials, and support ongoing quality initiatives. This position requires strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to follow standardized procedures in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Sample Handling & Documentation
Receive, label, and log incoming raw material and finished product samples.
Maintain accurate tracking in sample registers and digital systems.
Organize retained samples to ensure proper traceability.
Review supplier documentation including specifications and Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
Laboratory Testing
Perform routine quality testing including:
Moisture content
Water activity (Aw)
Particle size / sieve analysis
Color comparison (spectrophotometry)
Bulk density and flowability
Organoleptic evaluations (aroma, flavor, appearance)
Conduct detailed inspections of incoming ingredients.
Record results accurately in spreadsheets, logs, and databases.
Report any non-conforming results to QA or Technical Management.
Equipment & Compliance
Clean, calibrate, and perform basic maintenance on lab equipment.
Follow GMP, HACCP, allergen control, and food safety procedures.
Assist with shelf-life studies and periodic product evaluations.
Maintain laboratory organization and complete daily/weekly housekeeping tasks.
Support internal audits and ensure documentation is audit-ready.
Monitor and restock laboratory supplies as needed.

Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field preferred.
1–2 years of experience in food manufacturing, QA/QC, or laboratory environment preferred.
Basic knowledge of food safety practices (HACCP training a plus).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Bilingual Spanish preferred but not required.
