Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the incumbent functions as an expert-level technical authority within the WAN/LAN Unit. The incumbent serves as the technical lead for network systems and Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interface (REST API)-based integration efforts between the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), ensuring secure and efficient exchange of critical data across agency boundaries. This includes responsibility for 24/7 technical support and advanced diagnostics for network-related API connectivity, endpoint security, and data transmission integrity. The incumbent will architect, implement, and sustain robust networking and integration solutions that support DOJ’s operational and business objectives. The role requires collaboration with internal stakeholders, DMV technical teams, and external vendors to ensure secure, reliable, and standards-compliant REST API communication.

Working Conditions

This position is designated for telework under Government Code section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California and may require reporting to headquarters or field offices and facilities to fulfill operational needs. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Justice policies.

This position is eligible for telework, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
This is a 12 month limited term position, but may be extended to a maximum of 24 months and/or may become a permanent position based upon operational needs.

Statement of Qualifications

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required for this position. The SOQ is a narrative discussion of the candidate's education, training, experience, and skills as it relates to the desirable qualifications and duties for the position. 1. Describe your experience designing, implementing, and optimizing enterprise network architectures in a multi-agency or high-security environment. In your response, include specific technologies, protocols, and tools you have used, as well as how your work improved network performance or reliability.
   
2. Provide an example of a time you served as a technical advisor or subject matter expert for a high-visibility IT project. Explain the project scope, the stakeholders involved, your specific role, and how you ensured successful outcomes while meeting security and performance requirements.
3. Discuss your experience troubleshooting and resolving complex, high-priority network outages or performance issues. Include details about your troubleshooting methodology, coordination with other teams or agencies, and the long-term solutions you implemented.
