Transfer Paralegal

Job Summary

We are seeking a Transfer Paralegal for a direct hire opportunity in Glendale, CA. This role supports the legal and ownership transfer process for cemetery property, helping families navigate sensitive ownership matters with accuracy, professionalism, and compassion.

The Transfer Paralegal will work closely with internal departments, legal resources, and families to ensure property transfers are completed in compliance with California cemetery laws, established policies, and required documentation standards.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, compassionate, organized, and comfortable handling legal documents, family ownership details, and customer-facing communication in a fast-paced onsite environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Explain the cemetery property transfer process to owners, heirs, families, and other involved parties by phone, email, and in person.
- Research ownership records, gather legal and family information, and construct family trees to help identify heirs-at-law and proper ownership interests.
- Prepare, review, and process legal transfer documents, including affidavits, transfer agreements, name changes, certifications, and related documentation.
- Obtain and verify notarized signatures, supporting legal documents, and attorney-reviewed materials such as trusts, court orders, powers of attorney, and advance health care directives.
- Enter and verify transfer data in internal record systems while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with established procedures.
- Partner with legal, memorial counseling, and internal service teams to resolve transfer issues, meet deadlines, and provide a high level of customer service.

Compensation and Benefits

- Salary range: $83,000 to $100,000 per year.
- Direct hire opportunity.
- Location: Glendale, CA.
- Work arrangement: 100% onsite.
- Schedule includes rotational weekends, approximately once per month, including both Saturday and Sunday.
- Rotating holidays are required.
- Some travel to other locations may be required, with mileage expense eligibility as provided.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Guide families and internal teams through cemetery property ownership transfers.
- Research ownership records, family relationships, heirs-at-law, and supporting legal documentation.
- Prepare and process transfer-related legal documents with accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with legal and internal departments to resolve documentation and ownership issues.

- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of paralegal experience or related legal experience.
- ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate is required.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain legal processes clearly and professionally.
- Excellent customer service skills with compassion, patience, and discretion when working with families.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks under strict timelines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Valid California driver’s license and state-required active auto insurance are required.
- Ability to successfully complete a clerical and logical reasoning assessment before the first interview, including grammar, spelling, customer service, and typing components, with an 80th percentile passing requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

- Estate planning and probate experience.
- Real estate property transaction experience.
- Four-year degree.
- Notary Public commission.
- Bilingual Spanish skills.
