Principal Machine Learning Engineer

Responsibilities

• Lead AI/ML workflows, MLOps, automation, self-healing pipelines, and deployment standards for League of Legends.
• Design and implement scalable AI/ML serving architecture and integrations for Riot’s global player base.
• Lead ML feature platforms and data-pipeline improvements addressing scale, latency, and reliability constraints.
• Drive ML developer experience, platform tooling strategy, API standards, and operational cost optimization.
• Establish AI/ML governance, compliance, privacy, security, and cryptography practices with partner teams.
• Set incident management, response, observability, and monitoring standards for production ML systems.
• Mentor senior and staff-level engineers, coach developers across disciplines, and contribute to recruiting standards and interview kits.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years building production ML platforms, systems, or MLOps capabilities.
• Evidence of leading platforms or systems adopted and relied upon by multiple teams or products.
• Deep operational experience with ML-system failure modes such as training-serving skew, silent degradation, and cost spirals.
• Experience with cloud-native orchestration, Kubernetes, GPU scheduling, container orchestration, and large-scale system design.
• History of improving ML practitioner developer experience and materially increasing shipping speed or reliability.
• Track record mentoring senior and staff-level engineers and elevating platform engineering judgment.
• Experience serving multiple products or game titles, solving novel ML data-pipeline constraints, or working in ML governance, security, privacy, or compliance is preferred.
• Interest in player experience, games, or creative technology.
