Great Futures Preschool Substitute Teacher
The Preschool Substitute is responsible for aiding the preschool teachers in the day-to-day program activities and the social, emotional and cognitive health and development of the children.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :
Must pass pre-employment medical examination, TB test clearance and Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance. Must either have or obtain a Pertussis (or Tdap) vaccination and a Measles (or MMR) vaccination. CPR and 1st Aid certification as well as other online training may be acquired during employment.
JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS :
Education: Any Child Development Teacher permit –OR- Minimum 6 semester (or quarter equivalent) college units in early childhood education or child development -OR- High school graduate and currently enrolled in a core early childhood education college class.
Experience: 6 months of work experience in a licensed childcare center.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Help teachers maintain preschool in accordance to Title 22 and the State Health and Safety Code
· Maintain appropriate adult/child ratios at all time.
· Attend Boys and Girls Club staff trainings and meetings as required.
· Maintain positive relationships with schools, parents and community.
· Uphold policies, procedures, philosophy and mission stated in the Staff Handbook and Parent Handbook.
· Comfort children when needed.
· Keep areas clean and safe.
· Fill out incident reports when necessary.
· Administer first aid to children in minor situations.
· Participate in any fire drills initiated while on duty.
· Aide teachers in carrying out daily program activities and program events.
· Use developmentally appropriate practices in the classroom.
· Perform other related duties as reasonably required.

· Communicate effectively with teachers, parents and children.

· Preschool age development.
· Title 22 Regulations.
· Proper English usage.
· Record-keeping techniques.
· Developmentally appropriate practices.
· Strategies to motivate children to become involved in activities.
· Strategies to effectively prevent, intervene and/or redirect children’s negative behavior.
Abilities:
· Read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies.
· Rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of situations.
· Significant physical abilities include: sitting and standing for prolonged periods, lifting/carrying/pulling, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations and other sounds, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision.
· As required, as needs of students dictate, to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, elimination care, and the safe handling of students who are known carriers of chronic infectious diseases..
