Adler & Colvin has an opening in our San Francisco office for a new member of our Finance team. We are looking for the following basic requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent professional experience, required.
  • Five or more years of accounting or finance experience in a law firm or professional services environment strongly preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with law-firm accounting systems preferred (e.g., time and billing, trust accounting).
  • Direct experience supervising, leading, and developing teams strongly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel required (e.g., managing spreadsheets, creating charts, and using advanced formulas).
  • Understanding of accounting software strongly preferred and the ability to learn new software tools required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting and principles strongly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting preferred.
  • Experience with implementing enterprise resources planning and/or financial systems strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information required.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills strongly preferred.
  • Ability to approach problems with a sense of ownership and enthusiasm, and an ability to pursue innovation in a collaborative, team environment, strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work well with other members of the Firm and with outside vendors, consultants, and clients in a demanding environment required.

A day in the life of the Controller includes the following activities:

  • Lead, develop, and manage the accounting and finance team, including performance management and professional development.
  • Oversee all firm financial systems and operations, including general ledger, timekeeping, billing, collections, trust (IOLTA) accounting, and monthly/year-end close.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls for a multi-office law firm; ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, licensing, trust accounting, and state bar requirements.
  • Manage cash flow, liquidity, banking relationships, treasury functions, and monitoring of operating and trust balances.
  • Oversee accounts payable, vendor relationships, expense controls, payroll, benefits reconciliation, and required reporting.
  • Support shareholder compensation, draw calculations, insurance programs, and risk management activities.
  • Prepare and present financial statements, management reports, and analyses to inform leadership and monitor the firm’s financial condition.
  • Partner with firm leadership on budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and performance analysis; develop and track key financial and business metrics.
  • Coordinate audits, reviews, retirement plan compliance (including 5500s), discrimination testing, and other regulatory requirements.

Adler & Colvin offers competitive compensation and generous benefits:

Compensation: $170,000 - $220,000 annually, depending on experience.

Health Plan: Kaiser, Blue Shield PPO, and HMO plan options with a national PPO network, along with dental and vision insurance. Adler & Colvin generously contributes toward the employee cost of group medical coverage.

Dental & Vision Plans:
Adler & Colvin pays 100% of dental and vision premiums.

Basic Life/AD&D and Long-Term Disability Insurance:
Adler & Colvin pays 100% of the premiums.

Paid Time Off: Competitive vacation accrual; designated paid holidays, paid floating holiday, and sick leave

Other Details: This is an on-site position in the San Francisco Office with the option to work remotely up to two days per week after an initial training period.
