The Senior Paralegal for Patents will report to Skyworks Chief Patent Counsel and will be responsible for supporting all patent activities in the Skyworks Patent & Trademark Department.

Responsibilities

General Scope of Activities & Duties
This Paralegal will work interactively with outside patent law firms, foreign associates, and company inventors worldwide. General duties will include assisting with day-to-day patent prosecution, maintaining an electronic file room for patent documents, and supporting due diligence activities relating to patent sales and acquisitions. Transactional support for patent licensing, sales, university relations, and acquisitions will also be provided. Administrative duties will include primary responsibility for maintaining and supporting the patent docket system across our 10 to 15 different patent filing jurisdictions worldwide. This paralegal position will also support Patent Department functions such as issuing innovation disclosure docket numbers, provisional and non-provisional docket numbers, setting up files, filing paper and electronic documents, handling patent correspondence, and primary responsibility for processing all invoices relating to IP matters and maintaining in coordination therewith all related aspects of IP budget administration.

Innovation Management
This paralegal position will assist in managing innovation disclosures received from Skyworks inventors and coordinate with patent attorneys to support company patent development work worldwide. The Paralegal will serve as a main contact for Skyworks’ inventors and engineers to support the monitoring and tracking of the patent application preparation process including the preparation of assignments and processing of declarations as relating to patent filing and issuance awards. Further duties relating to Skyworks patent development work will include obtaining information from inventors and providing reports on these matters to appropriate internal contacts.

Docketing Administration - Patents
The Senior Paralegal for Patents will assist the in-house CPI systems administrator with generating various periodic patent reports from the CPI database for use by senior management and company executives, and with processing the Skyworks patent award program including filing awards, patent issuance awards, and patent plaque and coin awards. The paralegal for this position will also coordinate with patent counsel worldwide to ensure Skyworks patent docket system and records are maintained concurrent with our growing patent portfolio including up to 15 different patent filing jurisdictions across the globe.

Japanese Language Processing
This Paralegal will assist with the handling of documents in the Japanese language including those related to Skyworks Filter Solutions Co. This will include administering patent documents, contracts, and corporate filings on an as-needed basis, classifying and placement of documents appropriately at Skyworks’ Irvine office, and assisting with inventor communications generally. Some electronic mail and teleconference communication with inventors and attorneys in Japan will be required. For these activities, the Paralegal will be supported directly by Skyworks external IP counsel in Japan. Parallel administration of corresponding documents in Chinese and Korean with similar local support will be required within the scope of these duties.

Transactional Support
The Senior Paralegal for Patents shall be primarily responsible for working with the Chief Patent Counsel in preparing a variety of different IP legal documents including inventor patent assignments, patent assignments between corporate entities, and patent assignments between Skyworks and universities as occasion may require. This paralegal will also have responsibility for creating and editing IP terms and provisions for transactional agreements such as for university research and development, joint development or joint venture agreements with other corporate entities, employment agreements in various countries of operation, litigation settlement agreements, and other such related IP transactional agreements.

Required Experience and Skills

The successful candidate will have Bachelors degree and a minimum of 2 years of law firm and/or corporate IP experience, preferably some of which will be with Japanese companies.

Additional requirements include:

-Excellent writing, communication, and computer skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
-Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and in a timely manner.
-Solid understanding of foreign and domestic patent prosecution and docketing.
-Proficiency with Computer Packages Inc (CPI) patent administration database application software.
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.

Desired Experience

- Spoken and written Japanese language skills a plus.
-Paralegal Certificate preferred but not required in view of experience level and/or prior service years

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD $36.73 - $63.94 per hour . Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location.
