Staff Accountant Job Summary

There is a lot of interesting financial analysis going on at Hirsch and this position will be right at the center of it. As a Staff Accountant , you will report directly to the Corporate Controller by recording journal entries, prepare reconciliations of financial accounts to ensure the accuracy of the financial records and prepare various tax filings in compliance with regulatory requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare routine journal entries and all supporting documentation.
• In an organized and detailed fashion, complete account reconciliations by the assigned due date, including bank reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaids and others as assigned on a monthly basis.
• Prepare and submit property tax, census, and other government reports in compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Ensure all daily cash activity is recorded in the general ledger.
• Maintain fixed asset sub ledger in FAS and ensure it agrees to the general ledger.
• Maintain all prepaid schedules and post all related recurring and fixed entries in MAS.
• Review accounts payable distribution to GL for consistent coding and to identify expense accruals and reclassifications.
• Ensure accounting reports and files are maintained in an organized manner to facilitate ease of research and review.
• Perform analysis of financial reports and accounts as requested.
• Provide support for annual financial and other regulatory audits.
• Adhere to company policies, procedures and practices.
• Other duties as directed.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED
• Eighteen years of age
• Pass a drug screen
• Pass a background check
• Pass a pre-employment physical

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in general ledger accounting.
• Experience with Sage MAS 500 and/or Sage FAS.
• Level of skill and proficiency with Microsoft Excel commensurate with the Staff Accountant position.
• Good knowledge and understanding of US GAAP
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and well organized.
• Ability to work autonomously with little supervision.
• Collaborative work style.
• Ability to effectively prioritize the workload and complete work on a timely basis.
• A high degree of initiative and focus complemented by the proven ability and desire to consistently deliver quality work.
