Staff AI engineer
At Connectly we are building the future of conversational commerce in Latin America with the focus on Whatsapp. Buying on Whatsapp is ubiquitous in Latin America, yet only small businesses have made it truly seamless by asking real people to respond to Whatsapp messages. We at Connectly are building an AI-powered sales platform for large retailers.
We are a VC backed series B startup with a world-class team coming from Facebook, Google, Uber and other silicon valley companies. We are a remote-first company with offices in San Francisco, Sao Paolo and Bogota.
Job summary
- We are looking for an outstanding Staff AI engineer with the track record of launching and landing genAI conversational experiences for enterprise clients. The ideal candidate will be a productive individual contributor, but will also lead technical design and implementation of our core platform. They will interface with the infrastructure team, forward deployed engineers in Brazil and the rest of the engineers in SF and worldwide.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading the design and implementation of the next evolution of the conversational AI platform, from agentic sales and marketing components, to AI testing framework, analytics, and infrastructure.
- Involved in planning, growing and optimization of the AI serving platform running on AWS
- Interfacing and contributing to the components that are integrating with CRMs, WhatsApp APIs, eCommerce platforms like Shopify and VTEX
- Partnering with product, sales, forward deployed teams and C-suite to ensure high quality and impactful delivery of the platform and all of its components.
What will make you excel at this job:
- Strong technical expertise in the AI space. Knowledge and experience with the latest open source agentic frameworks.
- Knowledge and experience of the latest LLM technology, prompting techniques, tool use, testing methodology
- Knowledge and experience with the latest cloud ecosystems, AWS and GCP
- Strong communication skills to lead and propose technical strategy for individual components and overall platform
- Attention to detail and passion for excellence in customer experience
- Strong drive for results. In a startup, the candidate will need to make decisions, learn and iterate.
- Curiosity and willingness to learn are essential for being successful in a high paced startup environment with a rapidly changing technology landscape.
Requirements:
- BS or MS in Computer Science or related field
- 10+ years of technology industry experience in a hands-on engineering role
- 3+ years of experience building and launching AI products
- Experience working in high paced, customer focused environment
- Experience building both backend and frontend solutions using Python and Typescript.
- Experience building agentic systems, understanding of the recent frameworks is a strong plus.

We're a remote-first company, but due to the position being in SF, we are expecting a 3 day presence in the office. We expect that the majority of the collaboration will be happening in the Pacific timezone, but you will be involved in occasional early morning and late night meetings.
