Director or Senior Director Marketing
The Director or Senior Director of Marketing is a key leadership role responsible for supporting sales strategy that supports the growth and expansion of our four offices and broader SoPac region (Newport Beach, San Diego, Los Angeles and Las Vegas). This position will lead a high-performing marketing team, oversee pursuit planning, proposal delivery, and support brand positioning across our core markets. Partnering closely with Marketing leadership, Business Development partners, office leadership, and regional leaders, this role ensures that marketing efforts are fully aligned with business development strategies and McCarthy’s long-term vision. The Senior Director must be a strategic thinker, collaborative partner, and skilled communicator with proven success in leading marketing organizations in the construction industry.
Responsibilities
Leadership
- Serve as a member of the extended regional leadership team, representing marketing perspectives in office-level and regional decision-making.
- Partner with Marketing leadership, Business Development to align marketing and sales initiatives with each office’s goals and growth plan.
- Work in partnership with department leaders on strategy and pre-positioning efforts.
- Champion McCarthy’s Core Values and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the marketing team.
- Support the development of the region’s annual marketing plan in coordination with business development.
- Collaborate and provide strategic guidance on department priorities, including market positioning, competitive differentiation, and pursuit strategies.
- Mentor, coach, and develop marketing professionals at multiple levels, ensuring consistent growth and advancement opportunities.
- Drive accountability by establishing clear ownership, optimizing workflows, and ensuring consistent execution across all marketing initiatives.
Marketing Strategy & Execution
- Collaborate on communications and strategy on targeted marketing campaigns, strategic pursuits, proposals, and presentations to drive new business wins.
- Deploy brand positioning and external communications ensuring alignment with regional and national messaging.
- Support and manage key client and community-facing events, including industry conferences, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
- Lead efforts in market, competitive and project intelligence to inform pursuit strategies and market positioning.
- Ensure consistency and excellence across all marketing deliverables, including proposals, presentations, digital campaigns, and thought leadership content.
- Partner with Business Development teams to capture, organize, and structure key data to support informed decision-making.
- Lead account management efforts to strengthen client relationships and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
Business Partnership
- Collaborate closely with internal teams including Marketing Leadership, Business Development, Preconstruction, and Operations teams to identify and prioritize key deliverables and messaging.
- Influence pursuit strategy at the earliest stages, providing insight on positioning, messaging, and client engagement plans.
- Partner with regional and national marketing leaders to ensure consistency of tools, and processes across offices.
- Maintain strong working relationships with corporate teams, including Finance, Risk Management, and Legal, to ensure compliance and alignment in all marketing materials.
Team & Process Management
- Lead members of the marketing team, managing performance, workload, and resource allocation to support business goals.
- Establish clear roles, responsibilities, and processes to ensure efficiency and quality across all marketing functions.
- Provide regular feedback, recognition, and structured development opportunities for direct and skip-level reports
- Create a collaborative and high-trust culture that empowers team members and fosters ownership of results.
- Monitor and report on marketing performance metrics to measure impact and drive continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive marketing leadership experience in the construction or related professional services industries.
- Deep knowledge of marketing strategies, proposal development, and pursuit management in the construction industry.
- Proven ability to create and execute integrated client management plans that drive measurable business results.
- Strong background in leading proposal strategy and client interview preparation for complex, high-value pursuits.
- Track record of building and managing high-performing marketing teams, with experience in talent development and succession planning.
- Excellent strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate business goals into actionable marketing strategies.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to influence and engage at the executive level.
- Skilled at balancing creative storytelling with data-driven decision-making.
- Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable leadership style with a commitment to team success.
For Southern California locations only, the salary range for this position is: $150,000 - $200,000. This does not include possible bonus and other benefits which can impact total compensation. Compensation offered may vary based on work location, experience, qualifications, specialty, training, and market and business considerations, among other factors.
