NICU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Orange, CA 92868 (Southern California nursing jobs)
• Facility Type: Pediatric Hospital – NICU Small Baby Unit
• Assignment Type: Locum tenens (Travel Registered Nurse contract)
• Start Date: August 18, 2025
• End Date: January 5, 2026
• Contract Duration: 20 weeks
• Shifts: 3x12-hour day shifts (07:00 – 19:00) per week
• Total Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Required (first to float to Pediatrics, PICU, or CVICU)
• Charting System: Cerner EMR
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1890 - $1940 per week

NICU RN Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent NICU Registered Nurse experience, including care for extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants (22-24 weeks gestation)
• Experience floating within pediatric hospital units (Peds, PICU, CVICU)
• Active California RN license (required at time of application)
• Certifications: BLS, NRP, and PALS (all required)
• Proficient with ventilator management (oscillator, conventional vents, bubble CPAP, NIPPV)
• Pre/Post-op surgical experience, tracheostomy and central line care, IV drips, and small baby care
• Willingness to work 4 of 6 major holidays (can request 2 off; first come, first served)
• COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Two recent supervisor references required

NICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver expert, compassionate neonatal care to critically ill and ELBW infants
• Manage advanced respiratory support: ventilators, bubble CPAP, NIPPV
• Administer medications, blood products, and manage IVs, central lines, and drips
• Provide developmental care, thermoregulation, and feeding support (breast, bottle, gavage)
• Assist with high-risk deliveries, neonatal sepsis management, and pre/post-operative care
• Educate and support families throughout their NICU experience
• Float to other pediatric units as needed (Peds, PICU, CVICU)
• Document all care accurately using Cerner EMR
