Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Information Technology Manager I (ITM I), the Information Technology Specialist II (ITS II) performs systems administrator work and participates with other Information Technology (IT) Specialists within the Section on projects of a very complex nature or unusually broad scope in the System Administration 2 Section, Infrastructure & Operations Branch, within Technology Services Division (TSD).

The incumbent will (1) manage and maintain Linux-based systems ensuring security and stability of the operating system that supports the Child Support Enforcement (CSE) application; (2) perform technology operation analysis for troubleshooting of the operating system; (3) oversee all aspects of one or multiple IT projects assigned to Systems Administration 2 and (4) develop and design new system architecture, standards, and methods to support DCSS business requirements.

Working Conditions

Department of Child Support Services (DCSS) is a diverse, family-friendly organization. The headquarters office is in Rancho Cordova, convenient to Highway 50, with free parking, close to restaurants and shopping. The facility consists of a standard office workspace, within a 2-story building, and may require sitting for extended periods of time while using a personal computer, reviewing documents, and attending meetings. The position requires occasional travel to off-site meeting locations, conferences, or training. The work environment is fast paced and requires the incumbent to be flexible, use good time management practices, and effectively identify priorities to complete assignments in a timely manner.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule and requires employees to work two days, each week, on-site at our headquarters office in Rancho Cordova, CA; however, changes to the hybrid/telework program are at the department's and/or Governor’s discretion. DCSS does utilize a shared workspace or “hoteling” when working in the office.

All employees may be required to report in person to the Rancho Cordova headquarters and/or off site events or locations, as determined by management.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.

• Fingerprint/Criminal Record Clearance is required before hire.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Extensive experience with Linux Administration ( Strongly Desired ).
• Experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Administration ( Strongly Desired ).
• Experience with various Red Hat specific tool sets such as IPA/Identity Management (IdM), Satellite, Insights, etc.( Strongly Desired ).
• Experience with IaC utilizing tools such as Terraform, etc.( Strongly Desired ).
• Experience with Red Hat Ansible playbooks and Ansible Automation Platform ( Strongly Desired ).
• Experience with Broadcom UIM Monitoring.
• Experience with Backup and Restore Systems such as Commvault.
• Ability to work and learn independently.
• Leadership skills such as project management, mentoring, etc.
