Pacific Coast Energy Company LP (PCEC) is an independent energy company focused on optimization and acquisition of long-lived, currently producing oil and gas assets in California. PCEC's operations offices are headquartered in Orcutt, California. PCEC has completed two sizeable acquisitions from 2022 to current, doubling the size of the company. PCEC and its affiliate companies operate nearly 1,000 wells in California. Operations include conventional production through secondary recovery as well as tertiary recovery through cyclic steam operations. Primarily focused in Santa Barbara County, satellite assets are located in Monterey, Kern, and Los Angeles counties. PCEC takes pride in our team and values safety above all else.

Position Summary

Pacific Coast Energy Company LP is seeking an experienced and safety-focused Rig Supervisor to oversee our well intervention and workover operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising three mobile rigs operating primarily in Santa Barbara County and occasionally, one electric rig in Los Angeles County. This leadership role is critical to ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while mentoring and developing a team of 12–15 rig personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to rig personnel, ensuring all operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee daily rig operations, including workover activities such as fishing, recompletions, stimulations, sidetracks, and plugging & abandonment (P&A) operations.
  • Implement and enforce rigorous safety standards, including Job Safety Analysis (JSA), pre-job meetings, and stop-work authority.
  • Train, mentor, and develop rig crew members to build a competent, high-performing team and promote a strong safety culture.
  • Manage cost accounting and cost control for all assigned rigs, including monitoring daily costs, identifying opportunities for savings, and ensuring operations stay within budget.
  • Maintain advanced organization through logical and efficient filing systems for operational records, reports, permits, and regulatory documentation.
  • Perform high-level root-failure-analysis’ on recurring well failures.
  • Coordinate with company engineers, well-site supervisors, maintenance teams, and third-party service providers to ensure seamless operations.
  • Prepare daily operations reports, equipment utilization reports, and other required documentation.
  • Ensure all rigs and equipment are properly maintained, inspected, and compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for rig-related issues, troubleshooting operational challenges as they arise.
  • Promote and enforce environmental stewardship and regulatory compliance in all areas of operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive experience in onshore oil & gas operations, with significant time spent as a Rig Supervisor or Toolpusher on mobile/workover rigs.

  • Demonstrated expertise in cost accounting, cost control, and budget management.
  • Advanced organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail in record-keeping and logical filing systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of California regulatory requirements: CalGEM, OSHA, Cal-OSHA, APCD, Santa Barbara County Petroleum, EPA, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations as required.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
