Sr. SQL Server DBA
Roles and Responsibilities
- Expert in SQL Server Database Administration, including SQL Server on VMWare (on premise), Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server Reporting Server (SSRS).
- Install, configure, and maintain MSSQL databases across production, development, and UAT environments.
- Monitor database performance to ensure high performance, availability, and security.
- Optimize and fine-tune databases for query performance and scalability.
- Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to protect data and ensure quick restoration.
- Evaluate patch releases and manage patch deployment, communicating constraints, issues, and timelines.
- Perform database and T-SQL optimization, including performance tuning and query optimization.
- Set up and manage DevOps processes, including CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps or Flyway.
- Manage change control, maintaining multiple environments and deploying approved changes to production.
- Create and maintain documentation related to databases.
- Conduct capacity planning and review database performance regularly; produce management reports weekly and monthly.
- Manage SQL Server and Windows security audits, ensuring compliance.
- Develop and maintain conceptual data models to identify key entities and relationships.
- Reverse engineer physical data models from databases and scripts.
- Provide after-hours support through on-call rotations and weekend coverage.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support deployment activities after hours.
Basic Qualifications
- 10+ years of SQL Server Database Administration experience, preferably in asset management.
- At least 5 years of experience with backups, restores, and recovery models.
- At least 5 years of experience with High Availability (HA), Availability Groups (AG), and Disaster Recovery (DR) options.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with Azure SQL Managed Instances or Azure SQL Server, including migration tools and methodologies.
- At least 2 years of experience with data modeling tools like ERWIN.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) or higher in SQL Server.
- Proficiency in T-SQL for querying, performance tuning, and troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of backup, restore, and recovery models, including third-party tools like Avamar or Commvault.
- Knowledge of database security protocols, including encryption and data masking.
- Experience with database monitoring tools such as Foglight or SQL Server Profiler.
- Experience collaborating with data warehousing developers and familiarity with BI tools like SSIS, SSRS, and SharePoint.
- Experience with SQL Server replication and external replication platforms.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of or experience supporting .NET applications connecting to SQL Servers.
- Experience with virtual environments.
- Excellent communication skills.
