Job Description and Duties

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking their next dynamic leader who will assist the Director in providing strategic operations and support leadership for the Division of Enterprise Information Services (EIS)!

Under the general direction of the Director, Division of Enterprise Information Services (EIS), the Deputy Director, Operation and Support, will represent EIS by communicating the EIS vision, setting and measuring goals, and strategic planning. The Deputy Director provides direct and indirect supervision for all information technology (IT) staff throughout CDCR and is responsible for the management, operations, enhancement, and continuous system improvements of the statewide technology systems in support of the operations and management of CDCR.

Working Conditions

Enterprise Information Services is located in Rancho Cordova, CA off Birkmont Drive.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

  1. Experience in managing a comprehensive information technology (IT) program focused on IT field operations and infrastructure services, including 24-7-365 support, desktop support, and telecommunications services such as data/voice systems, PBX radio systems, and smart phones; and disaster recovery, business continuity, strategic planning, policy development, goal setting, and the ongoing support and enhancement of an enterprise IT infrastructure.
  2. Experience in managing critical IT system development projects linked to State, County, and local systems and demonstrated the ability to collaborate with the California Department of Technology regarding IT issues having a statewide impact.
  3. Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, develop, and manage IT resources including making recommendations on a development of IT strategies within a large department.
  4. Experience which demonstrates the ability to effectively make major policy-influencing decisions that contribute to the development of IT strategies within a large department.
  5. Strong leadership skills and proven ability to plan, organize, and direct multi-disciplinary staff in complex environment with multiple competing priorities and demands; as well as the ability to provide perspective to enhance and continously improve processes, information, application systems, and technologies into an efficient and integrated environment that supports execution of EIS' business strategy as well as CDCR's mission.
  6. Knowledgeable and experience in establishing business partnerships; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with departmental executive staff, legislators, control agencies, and stakeholders; and the ability to negotiate changes in scope, time frames, budget, and resources with Executive Steering Committees, control agencies, project sponsors, and business partners.
