Real Estate Counsel
About the Role
A growing real estate organization is seeking a Real Estate Counsel to join its in‑house legal team. This in‑office position, based in Los Angeles, will focus on transactional real estate matters including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and financings. The role reports to senior legal leadership and partners closely with internal teams and external advisors to support smooth and efficient transaction execution.
Key Responsibilities
* Support acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and financing transactions, including coordinating with outside counsel on drafting, review, and negotiation of key agreements.
* Manage due diligence processes, including checklists, timelines, coordination of calls and meetings, and communication with escrow, title, outside counsel, and buyer/seller representatives.
* Oversee ordering, tracking, and review of title reports, ALTA surveys, zoning reports, and other third‑party diligence materials; identify issues and collaborate on resolution.
* Coordinate all aspects of transaction closings, including documentation, internal approvals, signatures, escrow/title coordination, and preparation of closing binders.
* Draft and review real estate documentation such as NDAs, estoppels, SNDAs, lease abstracts, and other ancillary materials.
* Review, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts related to the ownership, management, leasing, operation, and construction of office and mixed‑use assets.
* Provide legal support to Asset Management and Construction/Development teams on property management and operations matters.
* Contribute to departmentwide initiatives, process improvements, and special projects.
Requirements
* Juris Doctor from an ABA‑accredited law school.
* Active member of the California bar in good standing.
* 2-5 years of experience in real estate transactions with a law firm or in‑house team; experience with institutional landlords or public real estate entities is a plus.
* Strong understanding of real estate transactional processes, including due diligence and closings; familiarity with construction law or contracting is helpful.
* Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
* Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide practical, timely advice in dynamic situations.
* Ability to work collaboratively with business teams, deal partners, paralegals, and legal staff.
* High level of professionalism, discretion, and judgment.
* Self‑starter with ownership mindset and willingness to learn broader aspects of the business.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated base salary range for this role is approximately $130,000 to $186,000, depending on experience, skills, and business needs. This role is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
