The Department of Fish and Wildlife's Northern Region is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Environmental Scientist in our Redding Headquarters office or in our Eureka field office.

Under close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the incumbent is responsible for conducting identified activities within the Northern Region’s Timberland Conservation Program in Siskiyou, Modoc, Humboldt, Del Norte and Trinity counties. Performance of specified activities will require functional knowledge of Department policies, applicable environmental laws and ecological principles. Work in this position is characterized by independent development and direction of analytical procedures for impacts assessment and mitigation development. Public contacts made in the course of this work are sensitive and involve a wide variety of special interest groups. A high degree of personal initiative is expected.

Working Conditions

Ability to use a computer including familiarity with Microsoft Office software. Responsibilities are split between office and field work. Office work will include researching, reviewing, and developing documents. Field work will include working in inclement weather, driving a 4-wheel drive vehicle, all-terrain vehicle, hiking long distances in rugged terrain, experience biting insects, and some overnight camping. Willingness to wear a prescribed uniform. Attend meetings and hearings, work with staff statewide to complete work assignments. This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. This position will require frequent day travel and moderate overnight travel up to five days per month. Use of a state-owned vehicle for travel is required between remote facilities and field sites where public transportation is not readily available.
