EDD's Tax Branch is one of the largest tax collection agencies in the nation! We are committed to providing excellent service to California employers and benefit claimants and to increasing voluntary compliance with payroll tax laws and we have an opening for one (1) Staff Tax Auditor (STA) in the Field Audit and Compliance Division, Santa Fe Springs Area Audit Office's (SFSAAO) Santa Fe Springs Audit Crew 1.This is a great promotional or transfer opportunity for an experienced Staff Tax Auditor to take a new step on your career path in a fantastic office! Under the general direction of the Tax Administrator I, the STA conducts in-state and out of state audits and investigations of the most difficult, complex, and sensitive accounts typically involving the largest employers with multiple status issues and computerized accounting systems.
The STA also helps to identify and develop audit leads for out of state and local Area Audit Offices (AAO). The incumbent will serve as the Department's audit and compliance representative in an out-stationed office, or in a headquarters setting, and may develop guideline, training course, and assist in formulating policy and procedures to assist management in the administration of the Employment Tax Program. This position is headquartered in Santa Fe Springs, CA and may be eligible for limited telework. California Government Code Section 14200 requires employees to reside in California to telecommute. Employees are required to report to their headquarters office, as needed. Travel expenses to and from the assigned headquarters are the responsibility of the employee. Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% - 4.62% in exchange for hours in the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) per month. Examination/Assessment
If selected for hire , you must obtain list eligibility by taking and passing the examination. If you already have list eligibility for this classification, you do not need to retake the examination unless your list eligibility has expired.
The Staff Tax Auditor is a Departmental Promotional exam for EDD employees only. The next administration of the STA exam is tentatively scheduled for July 22, 2027.
