Program & Position Description:

JCYC is seeking a passionate professional to join the organization’s Youth Development team and support the continuous development of young people and increase their capacity to positively contribute to the community. Programs included in JCYC’s youth development department include: Japantown Youth Leaders (JYL), Asian Youth Prevention Services (AYPS), Elevate Youth California (EYC), Tomodachi (Tomo) and Nikkei Community Internship (NCI). The Youth Development Youth Prevention Specialist is an integral member of the Youth Development Team in supporting the planning and implementation of program curriculum and activities and will report directly to the Youth Development Coordinator. The ideal candidate will be skilled in working collaboratively with adults and youth and developing strong relationships with stakeholders and community organizations. They will be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing environment. They must be flexible with varying schedules and activities during the week.

Responsibilities of the Youth Prevention Specialist include, but are not limited to, the following:

Program:

  • Identification, recruitment and selection (if appropriate) of participants for the AYPS program;
  • Develop and conduct creative and engaging youth workshops focused on leadership development skills and health education;
  • Implement youth-led community projects to educate and reduce substance use;
  • Maintain participant records, data entry, progress reports, evaluations and all other administrative related tasks;
  • Prepare and complete required written documentation and reports;
  • Assist with the coordination and facilitation of day to day operations for the Tomodachi Teen Group program;
  • Participate and support JCYC agency activities;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned/needed;
  • Attend and participate in evening and weekend meetings and events is required (minimum 1 per month).

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with a diverse population of youth from a range of backgrounds and circumstances preferred;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in facilitating youth groups;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting with or without supervision;
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with both youth and adults;
  • Vehicle access preferred.

Education:

BA/BS from an accredited college or four years of related experience.
