Glass Railings Estimator
Job Description
Job Description
Position Overview
The Glass Railings Estimator is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of glass railing projects—from estimating and measuring to scheduling and execution. This role serves as the primary point of contact for clients and works directly with vendors, glaziers, and internal teams to deliver high-quality glass railing systems for both residential and light commercial applications.
In addition to estimating, the Estimator is also expected to perform field measurements and, when needed, assist with installations. This hands-on, versatile role requires technical knowledge, strong organizational skills, and the ability to adapt as the department grows.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Estimating
- Serve as the primary estimator and client contact for all glass railing projects
- Generate accurate and competitive quotes based on site conditions, architectural plans, and customer needs
- Evaluate the complexity of projects and consult with clients to determine best-fit solutions
- Build and maintain strong relationships with builders, designers, homeowners, and contractors
- Track and manage the project pipeline from inquiry through closeout Field Work Installation Support
- Conduct field measurements to ensure precise quoting and installation readiness
- Occasionally participate in installations—particularly for complex or unique jobs—acting as a Foreman/glazier when necessary
- Provide technical guidance to glaziers and support the field team in troubleshooting installation challenges
Project Coordination
- Schedule approved jobs and coordinate with the field teams to ensure all details are aligned
- Order all required materials and hardware for each project, ensuring delivery aligns with install dates
- Prepare project packets, drawings, and paperwork for the glaziers in advance of installation
- Conduct post-job reviews and coordinate with operations for final invoicing and documentation
Operations Departmental Growth
- Maintain a clear and organized workflow for all jobs from estimate to installation
- Collaborate closely with the CEO and Operations to identify opportunities for process improvement
- Serve as a key contributor to the growth and structure of the Glass Railings Division
- Assist with onboarding and mentoring of future hires in the department as volume increases
Role Evolution
This is a highly hands-on, dynamic role that will evolve as the Glass Railings Division
continues to grow. As volume increases, additional staff—such as dedicated installers
or coordinators—will be brought on to support the department. The Estimator will
remain a critical contributor to both the sales pipeline and field operations, while
continuing to work closely with executive leadership.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural drawings and blueprints
- Strong knowledge of glass railing systems and related hardware
- Experience using CAD software (AutoCAD or similar)—preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Comfortable with digital workflows, CRM tools, and file sharing platforms
- General computer literacy and ability to learn new platforms quickly
Soft Skills Professional Qualities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate professionally and confidently with clients, vendors, and internal teams
- Outstanding customer service and client-facing skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities
- Team player with a collaborative mindset
- Strong work ethic, self-motivated, and proactive
- Capable of working independently and making sound decisions in the field
- Leadership potential with a willingness to support and mentor others
- Professional demeanor with a positive, solutions-focused attitude
