The Department of State Hospitals – Coalinga is now accepting applications for multiple Permanent Full-Time Marriage and Family Therapists positions. Under general direction of the Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I (SPSWI), the Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) treats mental and emotional disorders within the scope of the applicable Business and Professions Code(s), and license. In this role, the MFT will facilitate individual and group therapy to assist patients with chronic illness, challenging behaviors, addictions, and other specific needs of the population.

Working Conditions

All state civil service employees are currently subjected to a mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP), which entails a reduction in monthly gross salary but provides PLP leave credits in lieu of Pay through June 20, 2027. The amount of salary reduction is dependent upon the classification and associated union Bargaining Unit (BU). The BU for this position is NAME UNION, subject to PERCENTAGE in salary reduction, accruing approximately 3-5 hours of PLP each month.

This limited term position may be extended up to 24 months and has the possibility of becoming permanent. The advertisement may also be used to fill future vacancies for positions that are of the same classification and same tenure/time base if the vacancy occurs while this job posting is active

Coalinga State Hospital is accepting applications for this recruitment continuously. This advertisement will remain posted until the position(s) have been filled. Cut-off-date for this recruitment will be every other Thurs day commencing January 29, 2026. Applications may be processed on a flow basis prior to the cut-off-date to meet the hiring needs of the department. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and have eligibility by the application received date to be invited to participate in the next available scheduled interview and/or processed for conditional hire.
