Human Resources Director (San Francisco)

Position: Director of Human Resources
The Director of Human Resources oversees staffing, employment compliance, wage and benefit management, training programs, and employee relations including coaching, counseling, and discipline.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading and supervising the Human Resources staff.
- Preparing and managing the HR budget.
- Ensuring compliance with all HR and employment laws and regulations.
- Participating in hearings related to EEO, unemployment, wage & hour, workers' compensation, OSHA, ADA, immigration, and naturalization.
- Communicating policies and directives to employees.
- Training staff on HR policies and procedures.
- Ensuring staff compliance with HR policies.
- Managing recruitment, screening, and reference checks for non-exempt personnel.
- Recruiting, interviewing, and recommending exempt personnel.
- Maintaining employee benefits programs.
- Overseeing wage and salary programs, including performance evaluations.
- Handling employee transitions such as hires, transfers, and promotions.
- Conducting training sessions and monitoring safety and service standards.
- Updating and submitting reports timely.
- Participating in safety committees and developing safety incentive programs.
- Becoming a certified trainer in HR modules.
- Participating in employee recognition programs and developing employee engagement initiatives.
- Developing future managers and ensuring effective coaching and counseling.
- Managing personnel and application files and recruitment resources.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience in a hotel or related industry, or a 4-year college degree with at least 2 years of experience, or a 2-year degree with 3+ years of experience.
- Previous supervisory experience required.
- Knowledge of employment laws.
- Ability to work long hours sometimes.
- Warm, friendly demeanor and excellent communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and attend all required meetings and trainings.
