Emergency Services Director

As the Emergency Services Director, you will step into a full-service acute care medical center with strong shared governance and a collaborative nursing culture. The organization is accredited by The Joint Commission and recognized for its commitment to quality in emergency, cardiac, and stroke care. The Emergency Services Director reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer with full 24-hour accountability for Emergency Department operations. The Emergency Services Director has direct reports that commonly include assistant managers, charge nurses, educators, coordinators, and emergency technicians, and works closely with the ED Medical Director, hospitalists, ICU leadership, respiratory therapy, laboratory, imaging, pharmacy, and case management. The Emergency Services Director also partners with EMS liaisons, bed control, and throughput leaders to ensure safe, efficient patient flow.
The Emergency Services Director leads a high-volume, high-acuity Emergency Department serving a diverse urban population 24 hours a day. The culture is fast-paced, professional, and supportive, with strong collaboration among experienced emergency physicians, skilled RNs, paramedics, techs, and registration staff. The Emergency Services Director oversees triage operations, rapid evaluation areas, resuscitation readiness, and specialized pathways for time-sensitive conditions while championing patient experience and staff engagement.
As the Emergency Services Director, responsibilities include advancing clinical education, competencies, mentoring, and evidence-based practice; leading performance improvement initiatives across sepsis, stroke, STEMI, pediatric care, and emergency preparedness; and optimizing key metrics such as throughput, time-to-provider, LWBS, and patient satisfaction while ensuring regulatory readiness and safety. The Emergency Services Director manages budgets, staffing models, scheduling, productivity, capital planning, physician relations, policy standardization, and data-driven operations to deliver consistent outcomes. Qualifications for the Emergency Services Director include a current and valid state Registered Nurse license with BLS, ACLS, and PALS; NRP within 30 days for non-OB facilities; a minimum of three years of continuous acute clinical experience and at least two years of supervisory or management experience; a BSN or active enrollment with completion within one year; and CEN preferred.
