Position Summary

Starbound Theatre Performing Arts Academy is seeking a passionate, energetic, and collaborative Music Instructor & Music Director to inspire students of all ages through high-quality vocal music education and theatrical performance. This individual will play a vital role in developing young performers by teaching weekly academy classes, serving as Music Director for productions, and leading our growing community chorus programs.

The ideal candidate believes that every student deserves an encouraging, inclusive, and challenging environment where they can develop confidence, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for the performing arts.

Primary Responsibilities

Performing Arts Academy Instruction

Teach weekly vocal music classes for students across all Academy levels, including:

  • Little Stars
  • Rising Stars
  • Shining Stars
  • Shooting Stars
  • Super Stars

Develop age-appropriate curriculum focused on:

Healthy vocal technique, Music literacy, Ear training, Rhythm, Harmony, Performance skills, Musical expression, Prepare students for Academy showcases and performances, Evaluate student growth and provide constructive feedback, Foster an inclusive, positive, and engaging classroom environment.

Production Music Direction

Serve as Music Director for Starbound Theatre productions by:

  • Teaching all vocal music for productions.
  • Leading music rehearsals.
  • Working collaboratively with directors, choreographers, and production staff.
  • Preparing rehearsal tracks when needed.
  • Assisting performers in learning music confidently and safely.
  • Attending production rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances as required.
  • Supporting performers of varying experience levels.Community Chorus ProgramsLead and grow Starbound Theatre's community vocal programs, including:

Children's Community Chorus

  • Plan and direct weekly rehearsals.
  • Select engaging and age-appropriate repertoire.
  • Prepare performances throughout the year.
  • Build vocal confidence and ensemble skills.

Adult Community Chorus (Future Program)

  • Assist with development and implementation.
  • Lead rehearsals and performances.
  • Encourage community involvement through music.

Program Development

  • Assist in developing new vocal music programming.
  • Collaborate on workshops, camps, and special events.
  • Help recruit and retain students.
  • Participate in community outreach opportunities.
  • Support the growth and vision of the Performing Arts Academy.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain organized lesson plans and rehearsal materials.
  • Communicate professionally with families and staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development.
  • Support Academy performances, showcases, auditions, and special events.
  • Assist with summer camps and seasonal programming as assigned.
  • Model professionalism, positivity, and teamwork.

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Degree or coursework in Music, Vocal Performance, Music Education, Theatre, or related field.
  • Experience teaching children and teens.
  • Experience serving as a Music Director for theatrical productions.
  • Strong piano proficiency sufficient for teaching and rehearsals preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthy vocal pedagogy.
  • Experience directing vocal ensembles or choirs.
  • Ability to work with students of varying ages and abilities.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate young performers.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Ability to pass DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance and background check.
  • Negative TB clearance.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as productions require.
