Mechanical Project Engineer
Summary
Our client is a well-established and growing mechanical engineering consulting firm based in Ventura, CA , specializing in the design of complex building systems for large-scale commercial and institutional projects. Their portfolio includes K-12 and higher education facilities, healthcare buildings, civic and municipal projects, industrial warehouses, and commercial developments . The firm is known for delivering high-quality, technically sound engineering solutions while maintaining strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
They are seeking an experienced licensed Project Engineer with a strong background in mechanical and plumbing engineering to support and lead projects from concept through construction.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as the Project Engineer on multiple commercial projects, providing technical leadership throughout design and construction phases
- Design, analyze, and coordinate mechanical and plumbing systems including HVAC, hydronic systems, domestic water, sanitary, and storm drainage
- Develop and review construction documents , specifications, and technical reports
- Coordinate closely with internal engineering staff and remote design teams on drawings, specifications, RFIs, and design revisions
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to two full-time Mechanical Engineer Assistants
- Collaborate with architects, owners, contractors, and consultants to ensure project alignment and constructability
- Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration activities
- Participate in project meetings and assist with schedule and workload planning
- Apply strong working knowledge of energy management and building control systems (BAS/EMS) to support efficient and sustainable designs
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (California Building Code, ASHRAE, plumbing codes, etc.)
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required (California preferred or ability to obtain)
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in mechanical and plumbing engineering design for commercial or institutional projects
- Proven experience working on large-scale commercial buildings , preferably including K-12, higher education, healthcare, or civic facilities
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing design, and energy management/control systems
- Experience leading or mentoring junior engineers or engineering staff
- Proficiency in industry-standard design software (AutoCAD, Revit, and relevant engineering calculation tools)
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with remote teams
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience supporting construction administration, RFIs, and contractor coordination
- Results-driven, detail-oriented, and collaborative professional mindset
