  • The Clinical Genomics Scientist 2 serves as a pivotal contributor to a high-throughput, CAP/CLIA-accredited clinical laboratory, focusing on the interpretation of Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) data. This role is dedicated to resolving the diagnostic odyssey for patients by synthesizing complex genomic data into actionable clinical reports for undiagnosed and cardiovascular disease states. The successful candidate will apply deep scientific rigor to variant triaging and gene curation, ensuring that every result delivered has a direct, quantifiable impact on patient management and clinical outcomes.

responsibilities:

  • Execute comprehensive case analysis and interpretation for clinical WGS tests, specifically targeting undiagnosed and cardiovascular disease cohorts.
  • Perform systematic medical record review and deep phenotyping to contextualize genomic findings within the patient's clinical presentation.
  • Conduct rigorous variant triaging and curation of single nucleotide variants (SNVs), small indels, mitochondrial DNA variants, and copy number variants (CNVs).
  • Synthesize complex analytical and clinical characteristics of genetic variants by integrating peer-reviewed literature and bioinformatics data.
  • Draft precise, high-quality clinical report language that translates technical genomic findings into clear, diagnostic insights for healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to refine curation strategies and implement modifications suggested by ClinGen working groups and expert panels.
  • Manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining strict adherence to time-sensitive turnaround times and regulatory standards.

qualifications:

Required:

  • PhD in Biological Sciences, or a Master's Degree with a minimum of 2 years of direct experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying ACMG/AMP guidelines for the interpretation of SNVs, indels, and mitochondrial DNA.
  • Technical expertise in applying ACMG/ClinGen standards for the classification and reporting of Copy Number Variants (CNVs).
  • Proven ability to evaluate and translate complex scientific literature into clinical evidence for variant classification.
  • Mastery of genotype-phenotype relationships and the clinical application of genetic information.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet aggressive clinical deadlines.
Preferred:

  • Direct experience with ClinGen Sequence Variant Interpretation (SVI) Working Group modifications and Expert Panel guidelines.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics pipelines and statistical approaches to clinical genome analysis.
  • Prior experience in a CAP/CLIA-certified environment focused on Rare Disease or Cardiovascular genetics.
