Data Engineer

Strategic Legal Practices (SLP), a forward-thinking and influential law firm, is seeking a multi-talented, self-starting Software Data Engineer with a passion for creating high-impact data infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity to drive innovation at the intersection of law and technology. You’ll help shape how SLP leverages data to enhance legal operations, client service, and strategic decision-making.

We’re particularly interested in candidates with experience using Palantir platforms (e.g., Foundry) to drive large-scale data integration, pipeline development, and analytic solutions.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement robust, scalable data pipelines and integrations using modern tooling and APIs.
• Partner with analysts and business stakeholders to deliver self-service data solutions and insights.
• Own key data engineering projects across the firm, driving architecture and execution from inception to delivery.
• Ensure data quality, monitoring, governance, and platform reliability across environments (dev/stage/prod).
• Support and maintain existing infrastructure using Python, Java, SQL, Ansible, and cloud orchestration tools like AWS CloudFormation or Azure equivalents.
• Diagnose issues, perform root-cause analyses, and implement preventative solutions in collaboration with IT and business teams.
  
  

What We’re Looking For

• Hands-on experience working with Palantir Foundry or similar Palantir technologies.
• Strong background in data integration and building pipelines between software systems and data warehouses.
• Proficiency in Python and strong command of SQL and data modeling concepts.
• Experience consuming and managing third-party APIs for data ingestion and integration.
• A self-motivated engineer with excellent communication skills—capable of discussing data architecture with both technical and executive audiences.
• Familiarity with ML techniques, version control (Git), and command-line tools (Bash).
• Working knowledge of cloud environments such as AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
  
  

Bonus Points For

• Experience with machine learning frameworks like Scikit-learn and PyStan.
• Understanding of Bayesian modeling and MCMC methods.
• Background in fast-growth tech environments or data-intensive teams at larger enterprises.
• ITIL awareness and experience working with ticketing systems for support and production workflows.

• Ability to architect, set up, administer and scale data pipelines and build integration through external/third-party APIs.
• Experience ingestion of data from internal and third-party sources and familiarity with data design principles.
• Strong communication skills and ability to discuss the product and with executives and business owners.
• Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills with ability to identify and call out issues as appropriate.
• Experience of successfully building, optimizing and validating models (e.g. linear models, time-series methods; ML algorithms, Classifiers, etc).
• Understanding principles of ITIL and maintaining provision of products and services to consumers. Can work with ticketing system.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• B.S. degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a similar quantitative field
• 3+ years of related experience required;
• Deep knowledge in various ETL/ELT tools and concepts, data modeling, SQL, query performance optimization;
• Technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques
• Knowledge of cloud big data services and technologies
• More advanced ML algorithms such as Bayesian & Hierarchical Modelling and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) is desirable
• Python libraries such as Scikit-Learn and PyStan
• Version control software such as Git
• Experience with Microsoft Azure and/or AWS
• Command line tools such as Bash
