Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) Instructor
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Butte College HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Department seeks a well-rounded HVAC professional that will enhance our program. This program will serve our community by providing diverse experiential learning opportunities in a progressive curriculum, using modern technology, industry cooperation, and alumni support to prepare students for a productive future in the HVAC Industry.
The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching courses in all levels of Mechanical-Electrical Technology offered at the college in:
- Installing, commissioning, operating and maintaining residential, commercial, and industrial heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems.
- HVACR industry management and training skills, including troubleshooting, problem solving, and team development skills.
- Electrical control theory and application.
- Applied process of direct control, pneumatic, and computerized control systems and devices.
- Technical calculations related to heat transfer methods, heating and cooling load calculations, refrigeration load and piping systems, applied psychometrics, air duct design and sizing, water piping design, and sizing for HVACR systems and components.
- Treatment of water-cooled systems.
Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching basic, intermediate, and advanced classes for both lecture and hands-on laboratory.
- Developing and implementing online instruction and online support for all classes.
- Working closely with the department chair and tenured faculty to maintain the quality of instruction expected by the community and the industries we serve.
- Representing the college and the HVACR program through community outreach/recruiting by participating community and national organizations that enhance the manufacturing and fabrication industries.
- Recruitment of students for the HVACR program.
- Working with a team of professors, instructional assistants, and industry specialists in the design, development, and implementation of specialized instructional training equipment and facilities.
- Working with industry leaders and advisory committee members to ensure the department prepares students to meet current and future employment needs.
- Developing and teaching a full range of classes in HVACR.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized shared work environment.
- Maintain all proper certifications.
- Special emphasis will be placed on quality craftsmanship and safety practices in the industry setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of professional experience; OR
- Any associate’s degree and six years of professional experience; OR
- Possession of a current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as an instructor in the applicable discipline; OR
- The equivalent (Applicants wishing to be considered for employment under District equivalency standards must submit a detailed statement explaining how you possess the equivalent to the minimum qualifications discussed above.)
*Degrees must involve a general education component. Applicants without a degree or with a degree lacking the general education component may be considered if they possess other training and/or experience determined to be equivalent to the general education component . Applicants possessing such training and/or experience are encouraged to request equivalency.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- EPA 608 Certification Level II or III
- NATE or HVAC Excellence Certification
- Prior experience conducting trainings/teaching
- 5 or more years of Residential and Commercial HVAC experience
- CSLB C20 License
