Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in maintaining compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations while promoting a proactive safety culture across manufacturing operations. This position partners closely with leadership and shop floor teams to ensure a safe, compliant, and efficient work environment.
Essential Duties – Safety
Lead and drive the Safety Committee, including scheduling and facilitating monthly and quarterly safety meetings
Monitor workplace health and safety conditions, identify hazards, recommend corrective actions, and ensure implementation through the safety system
Develop, maintain, and audit safety program documentation, including training logs, inspections, and reports
Lead investigations of near-misses, incidents, and injuries, including root cause analysis and corrective actions
Conduct required annual Safety and Environmental training in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Develop, update, and maintain written safety programs and policies including IIPP, EHS programs, Hazard Communication (SDS), PPE, Respiratory Protection, Chemical Hygiene, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, and Emergency Action Plans
Support management with safety planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Respond to on-call emergencies involving injuries, accidents, or alarm systems
Ensure maintenance safety protocols, including LOTO, are followed at all times
Order, maintain, and sustain safety supplies and equipment
Essential Duties – Environmental
Maintain and complete all required federal, state, and local EHS reports and documentation
Manage wastewater systems and air emissions compliance
Conduct EHS audits, sampling, and measurements to eliminate or control hazardous conditions
Perform inspections of hazardous waste storage areas and ensure proper disposal
Manage, maintain, and improve EHS Management System documentation, communication, and record retention
Maintenance Support (Preferred)
Organize and maintain work request entries and monitor maintenance activities
Recommend countermeasures to prevent repetitive equipment breakdowns
Submit quote requests for subcontractors related to facility and production equipment repairs
Order repair parts and maintenance supplies
Track and report maintenance KPIs to leadership
Qualifications & Experience
5+ years of experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety within a manufacturing environment
Additional experience supporting or working within a maintenance department is a plus
Strong working knowledge of environmental and safety regulations and best practices
Familiarity with CAL-OSHA, CAL-EPA, DOT, and NFPA standards
Experience handling and managing hazardous waste
Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with maintenance databases is a plus
Ability to use power and hand tools safely
Knowledge of safe operating procedures including LOTO, welding safety, and PPE usage
Ability to read and understand blueprints is a plus
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field preferred
Equivalent industry experience may substitute for formal education at the hiring manager’s discretion

Physical Demands & Work Environment
Ability to sit at a computer approximately 25% of the workday
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted on occasion
Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, and carrying
Ability to climb ladders as required
Exposure to high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, airborne particles, heat, and fumes
Requires close, distance, and depth vision; safety glasses required
General Requirements
Comfortable working hands-on on the shop floor for up to 50% or more of the workday
ITAR eligibility required
Must successfully pass a drug/alcohol test, background check, and pre-employment physical
