Position Overview:

We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock, where we design and manufacture state-of-the-art locomotives, passenger coaches, and light rail vehicles that keep communities connected and moving. In this role, you will ensure the highest standards of quality and compliance in our welding and manufacturing processes. What your day may look like:

  • Performs a wide variety of inspections in the Carshell Welding and BG manufacturing areas.
  • Follows general inspection guidelines to conduct routine visual CWI, dimensional, and mechanical inspections on a wide range of welded and machined components and assemblies.
  • Utilizes multiple non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques to verify the acceptability of welded and machined components.
  • Ensures all work is performed to the correct configuration revision and complies with applicable drawings, specifications, and guidelines.
  • Conducts first article inspections of parts, assemblies, equipment, and tooling, providing summary reports and diagnostic findings.
  • Enters, maintains, and retrieves information from Material Resource Planning systems, noncompliance tracking tools, and the Configuration Management System.
  • Follows established instructions and specifications to perform inspections.
  • Uses experience and judgment when needed to interpret inspection outcomes.
  • Provides routine disposition for common defects.
  • May provide limited training and guidance to newer employees.
  • Interfaces with Weld Staff, Engineering, and customer inspectors; may have limited interactions with suppliers and quality management.
  • Plays a significant role in the acceptance and progression of work.
  • Understands that incorrect decisions or actions can lead to delays, inefficiencies, or additional project/departmental costs.

What will make you thrive in this role:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a weld shop environment.
  • 1 or more years experience with CWI inspection of increasingly difficult inspection involving the application and working knowledge of sophisticated measuring techniques.
  • Proven experience interpreting complex dimensional drawings, weld standards, and specifications.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following:
    • AWS Certified Visual Weld Inspector Associate
      • OR:
      • VT Level II certification plus certification in one or more of the following Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques:
      • Dye Penetrant (PT)
      • Magnetic Particle (MT)
      • Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

This position in located in Sacramento, CA. The base hourly range for this position is $31.35 - $36.88 per hour plus a 20% shift differential for third shift. This is a third shift position. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
