Job Title: CNC Machinist and Programmer
Job Description
This role focuses on setting up, operating, and programming CNC lathes and mills to produce precision components from aluminum and steel. You will work with tight tolerances, use Mastercam and Fanuc controls, and support a growing manufacturing operation in a large, indoor industrial shop.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathes to produce precision parts from aluminum and steel to specified tolerances.
- Program and edit CNC machining programs using Mastercam, with a focus on efficient and accurate tool paths.
- Work with 5-axis CNC equipment to machine complex components according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Interpret and follow blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to ensure parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.
- Use Fanuc controls to load, adjust, and optimize CNC programs during setup and production.
- Maintain dimensional accuracy within approximately +/- .005 tolerance and verify results using appropriate measuring tools.
- Operate conventional mills and lathes as needed to support production, rework, or secondary operations.
- Monitor machines during operation, make necessary adjustments, and troubleshoot issues to maintain consistent output and quality.
- Collaborate with team members on process improvements, tooling selection, and setup efficiencies.
- Follow all shop safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience setting up and operating CNC lathes in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Proficiency with Mastercam, including at minimum editing capabilities and preferably programming experience.
- Experience working with 5-axis CNC machines to produce complex parts.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
- Familiarity with Fanuc controls for CNC programming and operation.
- Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances, approximately +/- .005, on machined components.
- Experience machining aluminum and steel materials using CNC equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in a precision machining environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating conventional mills and lathes is a plus.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial machine shop environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented shop with multiple machines and operators.
- Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining and programming issues.

Work Environment
The role is based in an indoor manufacturing and industrial environment within a large shop of approximately 20 or more employees. You will work around CNC lathes, mills, and other machining equipment in a production setting. The environment emphasizes safe shop practices, collaboration among machinists and programmers, and consistent, high-quality output in a busy, hands-on machine shop.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Monrovia, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
