Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Education Research and Evaluation Administrator I of the Data Visualization and Insight Office, the Research Data Specialist III (RDS III) performs most of their duties in the Software Engineering domain and acts as the lead to extract, compile, and analyze data from various data collection systems, along with data stored in the Department's data warehouse. The RDS III will also process and analyze TK-12 educational data and design and conduct a wide range of complex research and data analysis that help inform data requests from specific policy makers and administration within a 30-day time frame. This position functions as a senior subject matter expert on the data to appropriately synthesize and interpret the information to develop novel insights, conduct data quality checks, prepare data visualizations that are featured in reports and data narratives, and make recommendations to support the administration and policy makers make decisions. The RDS III will also need to collaborate with staff internal and external to the department as well as produce one-time, short-term, and long-term reports that support high priority initiatives and programs.

Working Conditions

TELEWORK OPTION

HYBRID

This position is headquartered in Sacramento and may be eligible for a hybrid telework schedule for eligible applicants residing in California. Currently, the hybrid telework schedule includes working remotely and working a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Include specific examples of any tight timelines that you had to meet and describe your approach to initiating, planning, organizing, and coordinating these projects. Additionally, elaborate on your collaboration with team members, any necessary adjustments you made in response to changing directions, any activities that you led, and how you met the requested deadline.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

•Working knowledge of Microsoft Office components, T-SQL Server, Visual Studio, Excel, PowerBI, and statistical software (e.g., SAS and/or SPSS)

•Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

•Ability to work collegially in teams and in a shared decision-making capacity as well as work independently

•Have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of stakeholders on educationally sensitive issues

•Strong problem solving and creative solutions development skills, and the ability to easily adapt to changing priorities

•Ability to perform the assigned duties of the class and work under pressure when there are stringent deadlines to meet

•Possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, and good judgment.
