TEACHING ASSISTANT
Job Description and Duties
Position is for a 10 month school year with eligibility for an additional 2 months to be paid by State Special School Benefits through Unemployment Insurance.
Under the direction of the Elementary School Principal, the Teaching Assistant assists classroom teachers in the conduct of lessons, instructional programs, and other classroom activities, including program and curriculum presentation to students, administration and correction of tests and related classroom activities; tutors students; attends to children's physical needs in the classroom, including bathroom; Works in classroom and occasionally in other areas on campus such as yard areas, cafeteria, bus areas, etc.
Requires the use of a computer and other standard office equipment. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, all all levels of staff. Must be able to use Crisis Prevention/Intervention Techniques. needs; assists in supervising children on campus and on educational field trips; confers as needed with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs; files and stores materials as directed; and does other related work.
Work under the guidance and supervision of the teacher following instructions to work with students in accordance with the teacher’s daily lesson plans.
This would include work with students in small group lessons, for individual instruction and large group instruction.
Instruction may occur on campus or in the community. May provide assistance in data collection for student progress
Assist in the preparation of graphic and written materials indicated by the teacher and/or supervisor and operate computers and classroom equipment.
Assist in the supervision and escort of students around the campus.
Confers with teachers as needed to meet student needs.
Participate in recommended CSDR staff development activities, conferences, and workshops; attend scheduled staff meetings, department meetings, and CSDR Program activities as required; promote the CSDR program through public relations activities sponsored by the department; assist with staff development activities as required by the principal to develop/implement program improvement plans.

Working Conditions
Subject to fingerprinting and criminal record clearance by the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation and Tuberculosis clearance. This position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) fluency in the American Sign Language language. If the State of California does not have a current record documenting your fluency in this language, you will be required to successfully pass an approved language fluency test prior to being hired.
EXAMINATION
Individuals who do not have lateral transfer eligiblity, must have taken and passed an examination to obtain list eligibility for the classification in order to apply. List eligibility may be obtained by meeting the minimum qualifications as outlined in the examination bulletin, and obtaining a passing score on the exam. Additional Salary Information
Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours of PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.
