Full Stack Software Engineer (L5), Content Security Engineering

The Content and Business Product engineering team builds technology to scale Netflix's content operations from concept to streaming. We create systems and services that enable teams worldwide to plan, produce, distribute, and promote our titles. Content Infrastructure & Solutions (CIS) empowers other product teams working on content and studio applications to be innovative and agile in supporting our massive global content production needs. We do that by providing scalable and resilient infrastructure to address large-scale media, assets, data, security, workflow, and communication use cases.

Studio Foundations Engineering (SFE), part of CIS, plays a pivotal role in Netflix's content and games creation and delivery journey. The seamless magic of your favorite show starting with a click is the result of thousands of intricate processes and workflows behind the scenes that are enabled by our tools. We empower Netflix studios to bring creative excellence to life, build tools to bring operational excellence, and accomplish economies of scale. Our solutions aim to elevate the ROI of the $15 billion spent on content creation through cost/time efficiency and data-driven decision-making. We also provide technology to manage end-user access and build tools that help with resourcing workflows, resulting in the production and delivery of the highest-quality content.

The Role

Netflix leverages a large internal and external workforce to produce and deliver content to members. Globally, many thousands of people get access to sensitive data and applications to do this work. As part of the Content Security team, you will focus on building scalable solutions that help to identify areas of security risk across our business product ecosystem and prevent unintended exposure of Netflix pre-release assets and data.

About You

You are a strong full-stack engineer with strong software engineering fundamentals and product mindset. You aren’t afraid to come up with ideas, work on 0-1 initiatives, build front-end and back-end features and services. You have a passion for tackling complex ambiguous problems and you can come up with right sized solutions for solving them.

You are self-motivated and can work independently, while also being able to partner closely with engineers, product managers, support, and other business stakeholders on a project. You are passionate about building quality products and want to own development end-to-end, leading with the right architecture, and following sound engineering principles to deliver a maintainable, performant, and highly usable experience. You are a problem solver and like to challenge yourself, but you are not afraid to reach out when you need help, and you enjoy helping other engineers.

You possess the skills to independently develop, test, and deploy features end-end. This includes considering the necessary backend APIs (both consuming and implementing), understanding the organization of the data storage, and leading a comprehensive design for each feature. Your capabilities span the entire development lifecycle, encompassing frontend technologies like JavaScript and CSS, as well as building new backend APIs using Node/TypeScript or Java.

Required Skills

• 8+ years of proven experience as a full-stack engineer with an emphasis on troubleshooting, pragmatic problem-solving, and using industry-standard technologies

• JavaScript/TypeScript and Java experience

• Experience in a modern frontend framework such as React or Vue (React is preferred)

• Backend development experience; comfortable writing APIs

• Experience or interest in API architecture and microservices

• Strong data modeling skills and the ability to deal with complex data

• Strong architectural skills, ability to produce scalable, maintainable solutions

• Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with users and stakeholders

• Enabling other teams and engineers to be successful

Nice to have

• Experience with AuthN, AuthZ ,and security tooling

• Experience building platforms or user interfaces for different personas - developers and end users.

• Familiarity with GraphQL

• Exposure to a workflow and/or rules-engine system

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $170,000 - $720,000.
