Mechanical Engineer

Joby Aviation
California
Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

Joby's flight research team works on the leading edge technology to push Joby forward in its mission to build the world’s smartest, cleanest and most advanced aviation systems and aircraft. We're transforming the way airplanes fly — so air mobility will be radically safer, more efficient, more accessible, and more sustainable than ever.

The flight research team is looking for a passionate Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team. The Mechanical Engineer will be a part of the design and integration process across the Autonomy Systems. The Mechanical Engineer will own the installation of a single or multiple avionics systems, with responsibilities ranging from CAD, structural analysis, installation drawings, configuration management, certification, and entry into service. This is a position that provides the engineer a chance to interact with many of the key teams and disciplines within the company. This role will be responsible for leading the development and certification of mechanical installations of systems and the design of mechanical subsystems to ensure successful design validation and verification. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with the Systems, Hardware, and GNC teams to ensure that the avionics systems meet the program's needs.

This position requires a solid understanding of aircraft systems, system integration, and industry-specific certification processes for mechanical systems. This position requires a solid background in mechanical systems design and analysis and a willingness to learn, enabling one to understand the complex trade-offs involved in mechanical system design, both within Avionics and across the entire aircraft system.

The most important traits at Joby are a positive attitude towards the project, a strong work ethic, and the ability to self-manage and learn new skills. Forward thinking and the ability to adapt quickly to a fast-paced environment are essential.
