Position Summary:
We are seeking a Pet Transportation Specialist (long distance driving role) to join Skoot’s operations team. This is a team-based role where drivers may share a vehicle with another team member. The role is responsible for transporting animals safely and timely along assigned routes while ensuring a calm and secure experience for both pets and clients. The job includes:
- Driving
- Caring for animals during transport
- Communicating with customers and the Skoot team
The ideal candidate has strong time management skills, is comfortable driving for extended periods, and communicates professionally and courteously with clients and team members. Above all, they genuinely love animals and are committed to providing attentive, compassionate care throughout every journey.
Route Overview:
This position involves long-distance pet transport routes along the West Coast, traveling non-stop from San Diego to Seattle and back. Routes operate on a biweekly schedule and are completed over 3-day trips (Friday–Sunday). Each route is staffed by a two-person team, with drivers alternating responsibilities and taking scheduled meal and rest breaks throughout the journey.
Team members are compensated for all time on route, whether driving or riding as a passenger. When not driving, the passenger may rest, provided that one qualified driver is always operating the vehicle and actively monitoring the pets.
Priority will be given to applicants applying as an established driving pair (duo).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safely transport pets along assigned routes while following company procedures and schedules
- Handle, load, and care for animals with a focus on safety, comfort, and well-being
- Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, and team members throughout trips
- Complete required trip logs, check-ins, and documentation accurately
- Conduct basic vehicle inspections and maintain vehicle cleanliness and readiness
- Monitor pets during transport and promptly report any concerns or incidents
- Assist with additional duties as needed to support company operations
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 3 years of driving experience required, with a clean and insurable driving record
- Prior experience working with or handling animals preferred, including pet care, boarding, grooming, veterinary support, pet transport, or personal animal handling experience
- Experience operating a vehicle safely over long distances preferred
- Previous experience in customer service or client-facing roles is a plus
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Excellent time management and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, route-based environment
- Comfortable using mobile apps for navigation, communication, and trip updates
- Professional, adaptable, and calm under pressure
- Commitment to safety, reliability, and following established procedures
- Genuine care for animals and willingness to learn safe handling practices
Physical Requirements
- Ability to drive for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to safely load, unload, and handle pets of various sizes
- Ability to enter and exit vehicles frequently throughout the day
- Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities
