In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program (PLP) 2025. This program temporarily reduces employees’ monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits through June 2027. Working Conditions
• This position is eligible for a hybrid telework option, in accordance with CAL FIRE’s telework policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
• May be subject to working nights, weekends, or holidays in support of emergency incidents or program operational needs. Extended travel away from assigned headquarters may be required, locally or statewide, and may involve
overnight stays, up to 75% of the time.
• Overtime may be available depending on operational need.
Special Requirements
If using education to meet Minimum Qualifications, please provide a copy of your transcripts showing completion of at least 12 semester units or 18 quarter units from a recognized accredited college or university in forestry or fire science, natural resource management, conservation, or a closely related subject.
This position requires Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) Clearance prior to the incumbent being hired.
• The incumbent may be required to wear respiratory protection equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). The use of such equipment may place a physiological burden on the incumbent that varies with the type of equipment used, the job and workplace conditions in which the equipment is used, and the medical status of the incumbent. As such, California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (CalOSHA) requires that the incumbent be annually medically cleared to be fit-tested for respiratory protection equipment. This clearance process consists of a comprehensive medical evaluation including a review of the incumbent’s medical history, a complete physical examination, and vision, hearing, spirometry, and exercise treadmill tests. Duties involve field work requiring physical performance calling for above-average ability, endurance, and superior condition, including occasional demand for extraordinarily strenuous activities in emergencies, under adverse environmental conditions, and over extended periods of time; requires running, walking, difficult climbing, jumping, twisting, bending and lifting over 25 pounds; and the pace of work is typically set by the emergency situation.

Statement of Qualifications Instructions

Statement of Qualifications Guidelines
When preparing your Statement of Qualifications, please follow these guidelines:
• The information you provide must be complete and presented in a clear and concise manner.
• Your Statement of Qualifications must be typewritten using Arial 12-point font with 1” margins.
• Limit your response to no more than a one (1) typewritten page, single-sided.
1. Please describe how your background, training, education, experience, and skills qualify you for the position of FIA data collection crew member. Include your experience in forestry or biological field data collection, the project’s goals, and your role in the project.
2. Please describe specific forestry or biological field data collection tools and equipment you have used, including the types of measurements collected with each tool or equipment.
