Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Human Resources Manager to join our team in Los Angeles. SuperOrdinary is an established company but with an entrepreneurial/start-up vibe, so you will get to have direct influence on policy and program implementation without layers of bureaucracy. This hands-on generalist role will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and managing HR programs and initiatives. You will help ensure a supportive and compliant work environment and serve as a strategic partner to leadership in a growing organization, currently with a population of 125-150 employees (both hybrid in LA and remote across the US). You’ll play a critical role in a lean team and be deeply involved in both strategic planning and daily operational tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employee Relations: Serve as a primary point of contact for employee concerns, mediating conflicts, conducting investigations, and resolving issues fairly and consistently to promote a harmonious workplace culture.

  • Payroll: Oversee and manage the accurate and timely processing of semi-monthly payroll, including wages, deductions, benefits, and tax withholdings, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.

  • HR Information Systems (HRIS): Administer and optimize HRIS platforms (e.g., ADP, Workday, etc.) for efficient data management, reporting, and process automation, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.

  • Performance Improvement: Develop, implement, and manage performance management programs, including goal setting, performance reviews, feedback mechanisms, and disciplinary actions, to drive employee growth and organizational effectiveness.

  • Culture Building: Lead initiatives to cultivate a positive, inclusive, and engaging company culture that aligns with organizational values and promotes employee satisfaction and retention.

  • Benefits Administration: Oversee the administration of all employee benefits programs, including health insurance, dental and vision - ensuring competitive offerings and seamless enrollment and communication.

  • 401(k) Administration: Manage the company's 401(k) plan, including employee enrollment, contribution processing, compliance with ERISA regulations, and employee education.

  • Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations (e.g., FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, California labor laws), staying updated on legislative changes and implementing necessary policy adjustments.

  • People Planning/Workforce Planning: Collaborate with leadership to forecast staffing needs, develop succession plans, and create talent strategies that align with business objectives.

  • Hiring & Onboarding: Participate in recruitment efforts, from talent acquisition strategy and job postings to interviewing, offer letters, references, and a smooth onboarding experience for new hires.

  • Training & Development: Identify training needs, develop and deliver engaging training programs, and facilitate professional development opportunities to enhance employee skills and career growth.

  • Policy Development & Implementation: Create, update, and enforce HR policies and procedures, ensuring consistency and alignment with best practices and legal requirements.

  • HR Metrics & Reporting: Analyze HR data and metrics to identify trends, provide actionable insights to management, and measure the effectiveness of HR initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

  • Master's degree in Human Resources or an HR Certificate (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, with a strong emphasis on generalist responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated expertise in employee relations, HRIS management, performance management, benefits and 401(k) administration, and compliance.

  • Strong understanding of California labor laws and regulations.

  • Proven experience in people planning, hiring, and training & development.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 per year, based on experience

  • Total comp includes annual bonus, comprehensive benefits packages (health, dental, vision, 401k, and flexible PTO).
