Accounts Payable Specialist

Kern Regional Center is one of 21 private, non-profit regional centers contracted by the State of California through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to coordinate community-based services and support for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Kern Regional Center services over 10,000 individuals in Kern, Inyo and Mono Counties. Our counties cover approximately 22,000 square miles with a population of over 945,000 people.

The Accounts Payable Specialist provides accounts payable support by calculating and posting business transactions, processing invoices, and verifying financial data to maintain accurate payment records for the organization. The role reviews invoices and requisitions for proper approval, clarifies questionable items such as pricing or receiving signatures, and ensures all totals, extensions, and applicable discounts are calculated correctly. Responsibilities include assembling invoices for payment, confirming vendor payment history, maintaining supporting documentation such as vouchers and correspondence, and preparing periodic financial reports. All records are maintained in compliance with State guidelines, along with performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidate:

• Associate's degree in accounting from an accredited college
• One year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge of:

• Accounts payable
• General accounting procedures
• Relevant accounting and payroll software (Such as QuickBooks, Paylocity), internet, MS Office, Outlook and have intermediate/expert knowledge of Excel for spreadsheet purposes

Salary range for this position $22.72 to $31.97 per hour

Starting salary range $22.72 to $25.05 per hour
