The Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (Bureau) (BPPE) is looking for a talented individual who is highly motivated, has excellent communication skills and wants to join a diverse, hard-working team. If you can multi-task and have a strong desire to learn, we want to learn more about you.
Under general direction of the Deputy Bureau Chief, the Supervisor II is responsible for planning, directing, and organizing statewide activities for the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (Bureau) programs in Applications Review. The Supervisor II oversees a wide variety of duties in program management and evaluation, fiscal management of the Licensing Section, and supervisory functions.

Working Conditions
Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview. However, they must reside in the State of California once they are hired and start working.
Effective July 1, 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) which reduces an employee's monthly salary in exchange for leave credits. Employees appointed to this classification will have their monthly salary reduced and will accrue hours of PLP 2025 on the first day of each pay period as outlined on "Section 2113 - Personal Leave Program (PLP)" of the CalHR Manual. The salary range(s) included on this job posting do not reflect the reduction in pay.
The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting. Beginning July 1st, 2025, per Executive Order N-22-25, BPPE employees will be required to report into office four days a week.
The position is headquartered in Sacramento, CA.
Special Requirements
Conflict of Interest: This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs' Conflict of Interest Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1, and within 30 days of leaving office.

• Ability to research and apply state laws, rules and regulations governing private postsecondary educational institutions.
• Ability to identify principles and formulate policies, procedures, and protocols in effort to develop programs and services in coordination with internal and external entities.
• Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills and tact.
• Ability to take initiative in addressing programmatic issues having significant impact on the Bureau.
•Strong decision-making skills and ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to a variety of administrative and operational issues.
• Ability to instill a cohesive, team-focused environment and manage multiple priorities under tight time-frames.
• Ability to remain flexible and adapt to rapid changes in assignments without compromising accuracy.
• Ability to research, identify, and synthesize complex information for the purpose of communication what is essential at an executive level, while considering impact, risk, and long term needs.
• Experience creating and implementing action plans.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ). The SOQ must be a minimum of one (1) page and shall not exceed two (2) pages. The SOQ must be single spaced, with 12-pt font.
1. Describe a program, operation, or organizational unit you were responsible for that experienced significant challenges involving workload, timeliness, quality, productivity, or performance. Explain how you assessed the operation, identified the root causes, established priorities, implemented corrective actions, and measure whether the changes were successful.
2. Describe your experience leading supervisors, team leads, or multiple teams responsible for compels analytical, regulatory, technical, or operational work. Provide a specific example of how you established expectations, monitored performance, addressed inconsistencies or underperforming operations or staff, and ensured leaders and employees were accountable for results.
3. Describe a situation in which you used workload information, performance measures, reports, trends, or other data to identify an operational problem and make a management decision. Explain what the data showed, how you determined what action was necessary, what you changed, and the outcome.
