About the Role:

As an Engineering Manager in Payments - Foundation, you will lead the vision and execution for the core payment services that facilitate fiat monetary transactions on the platform. This role is of extremely high importance, directly impacting Roblox's revenue and user experience globally. You will be working directly with a number of cross‑functional partners from Product teams, all the way to Finance and Accounting, influencing our business growth direction. Specifically, your team will be responsible for the mission‑critical systems that handle:

• Payment Provider Integration: Owning the end‑to‑end integration and lifecycle management of key external payment processors (e.g., credit cards, regional payment methods, app stores), ensuring high availability and seamless connectivity.
• Funds Acquisition: Managing the complex backend flows responsible for securely and accurately acquiring funds from users, including transaction processing, tokenization, and maintaining the integrity of payment state.
• Platform Foundation: Leading the development and maintenance of core payment services such as the Payment Orchestration Layer, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
• Critical Operational Insight: Building robust telemetry, alerting, and dashboards to provide real‑time operational insights into payment success rates, latency, and system health for all acquisition channels.

You have:

• Technical and Leadership Experience:
• 8+ years of hands‑on experience in software development, with a focus on building and operating highly scalable distributed systems .
• 2+ years of direct experience managing and mentoring high‑performing engineering teams.
• Demonstrated ability to define and drive technical vision and roadmap for mission‑critical, high‑volume services.
• A strong track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining exceptional engineering talent.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical trade‑offs and project status to technical peers, product managers, and executive leadership.
• Familiarity with various global payment methods (e.g., credit cards, ACH, digital wallets, regional banking transfers) and the complexities of international funds acquisition.
• Experience integrating with or managing external vendor relationships for critical infrastructure services.

You will:

• Manage Team Execution & Delivery: Oversee the daily execution of the engineering roadmap, ensuring the team efficiently delivers high‑quality, reliable code on time.
• Drive Operational Excellence & Health: Maintain the 24/7 health and stability of mission‑critical payment systems, leading on‑call rotations, incident response, and driving post‑mortem analysis to continuously improve system reliability and reduce transaction errors.
• Lead Technical Design & Code Review: Provide hands‑on guidance on complex technical designs, architecture proposals, and perform thorough code reviews to maintain high standards for security, performance, and scalability across the payments stack.
• Ensure Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary engineering liaison, collaborating closely with Product Management, Finance, Legal/Compliance, and Risk teams to align on requirements, prioritize features, and ensure regulatory adherence (e.g., PCI DSS).
• Define Architectural Strategy: Set the long‑term technical vision and architectural roadmap for the team and underlying services to support billions of secure transactions globally.
• Grow and cultivate an Impactful Team: Attract, hire, mentor, and coach top‑tier software engineers, fostering a culture of ownership, engineering excellence, and continuous learning within the Foundation Pod.

Annual Salary Range

$293,800 — $343,340 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
