Over the last few years, the Voleon Group has formed a new team to help advance our data-driven investment initiatives. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be responsible for harvesting insights from complex data and mentoring junior Data Scientists. Your role will involve designing systems and directing efforts in data curation, analysis, interpretation, and visualization, as well as communicating findings to research staff and leadership. This role is crucial as data insights are central to our business.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Technical Product Owners to prioritize analytics and insight extraction, proceeding autonomously with implementation
• Identify abnormal production behavior, investigate, rationalize, and guide others in doing so
• Communicate investigation results clearly with actionable insights
• Design and oversee analysis pipelines for ongoing monitoring and deployment
• Guide and manage the technical efforts of other Data Scientists
• Cultivate expertise in financial and statistical analysis within the team to gain actionable insights

Requirements

• 3+ years of applied industry experience with complex datasets, including curation, querying, aggregation, exploratory analysis, and visualization
• Experience using statistical methods to analyze data, identify patterns, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend solutions
• Ability to frame and answer questions quantitatively
• Ability to infer forward-looking directions from retrospective analysis
• Proficiency in managing, processing, and visualizing tabular data with SQL, Pandas, and R
• Basic software development skills including bash, Unix, and git
• Ability to refine requirements from ambiguous requests and produce clear reports
• Bachelors and Masters degrees in quantitative disciplines such as statistics, biostatistics, data science, or computer science

Preferred

• Experience leading a team of technical contributors
• Interest or experience in finance through academic projects, coursework, or internships
• Experience with production-facing development and tooling like CI/CD, git, and Airflow

Compensation

The salary range is $190,000 to $230,000, based on experience and location. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 20 days of paid time off, sick days, and a 401(k) plan with company match.
