Senior Software Engineer, Tools

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.

What you’ll do:

• Support the development and maintenance of Archer’s high fidelity aircraft simulators which facilitate validation and verification activities, handling quality evaluations, human factor evaluations and the overall aircraft development process


• Work with internal groups to design and build tools that consolidate data from multiple sources for lab configuration and hardware integration purposes


• Design, build, maintain and improve existing CI/CD infrastructure to support end-to-end automation of lab software


• Work with internal groups to create test automation functionality in support of aircraft certification testing


• Design and build graphical user interfaces to control the real-time simulation environment


• Assist in the execution of test plans and test automation

What you need:

• 5+ years of experience in a related field


• BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field


• Proficiency in Python or C++


• Experience with Matlab


• Experience in developing and maintaining relational databases


• Experience developing enterprise level applications


• Experience gathering user requirements and developing design diagrams, user documentations, and project plans for developing software


• Experience prototyping Graphical User Interfaces based on user feedback


• Solid understanding of standard software development tools:




• Continuous integration - TeamCity / Artifactory


• Version control - Git / Bitbucket


• Issue tracking - Jira


• Excellent organizational and communication skills

Bonus qualifications

• Experience developing real-time software for a Hardware-in-the-Loop aircraft simulator


• Experience building and developing for a COTS HIL platform (dSPACE, NI, ADI, etc)


• Proficiency in the National Instruments (NI) software suite


• Solid understanding of communication standards and protocols (RS-422/485, CAN, ARINC-429, AFDX, Ethernet, TCP/IP, USB etc…)


• Experience automating and executing test plans


• Familiarity with fault injection methodologies


• Proficiency in C\C++ or other low-level languages


• Proficiency and MATLAB/Simulink


• Experience with model based development using Matlab/Simulink


• Experience with Agile/SCRUM methodologies and tools


• Familiarity with or a passion for aviation

We drive a pay-for-performance culture and reward performance that supports the Company’s business strategy. For this position we are targeting a base pay between $134,000 - $167,000. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
