About the Device Security Team

Verkada’s device security team has an important mission–empower the company to build the safest physical security products in the world. We are directly responsible for the development of important defensive security measures that run on all Verkada devices, and build & maintain security infrastructure that helps secure the firmware running on our fleet of devices.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Own the present and future of Verkada’s code signing infrastructure, balancing the need for firmware code signing security against the need for teams to iterate rapidly.


• Secure the firmware supply chain by building tools & automation to check dependencies are up to date and vulnerabilities are patched.


• Maintain physical device security infrastructure, such as the offline secure boot code signing facility.


• Partner with other firmware teams to integrate firmware supply chain tools into their build processes.


• Help mentor other engineers, and learn everything you can about embedded IoT security.


• Contribute to other parts of the team (cloud, backend, or firmware) as needed.

Required Experience:

• 8+ years developing Linux applications, preferably in Go, C++, or C.


• Exposure to HSMs, PKCS#11, and cryptography libraries, plus working knowledge of cryptography algorithms.


• Strong knowledge of networking & Linux operating system fundamentals, including important commands & files.


• Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.


• Have worked in an agile team environment.

Nice to Have:

• BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. Non-traditional backgrounds are OK to apply as well!


• Yocto, openwrt, or other embedded Linux build systems.


• Code building and signing infrastructure through public cloud providers, such as AWS CodeBuild, KMS, and CloudHSM.


• Infrastructure-as-code tooling & frameworks such as Terraform or Ansible.


• Hacker mindset, or interest in knowing more.

Annual Pay Range

At Verkada, we want to attract and retain the best employees, and compensate them in a way that appropriately and fairly values their individual contribution to the company. With that in mind, we carefully consider a number of factors to determine the appropriate starting pay for an employee, including their primary work location and an assessment of a candidate's skills and experience, as well as market demands and internal parity. A Verkada employee may be eligible for additional forms of compensation, depending on their role, including sales incentives, discretionary bonuses, and/or equity in the company in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs)

Below is the annual on-target earnings (OTE) range for full-time employees for this position, comprised of base compensation and commissions (if applicable).
